A HIGH-RISE MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT

DESIGN CONCEPT - Anilan: Emerging Nature to the City

A mixed-use development that will offer a balanced living to the residences and nearby consumers/users
around the site. The main inspiration for the concept is “Anilan” which means “tipunan or to gather
together”; which also means “bahay-pukyutan or honeycomb”. Adapting to the attributes of a honeycomb
which serves as the habitat, gathering space, working place, and food storing shelter of the bees. The idea
is to design a place that will give the opportunity to gather the people without compromising their live-
work-play needs in life.

Emerging the natural environment to the city living of the users considering that the location of the
development is in an urban area. Transforming the building into an ecosystem/breathing building.
Canceling out the mentality that nature exposure is excluded in a city-living setting. Enhancing human
experience on high-rise buildings, the outset of a refreshing urban island that improves the quality of life
addresses contemporary and future urban challenges.

give character to the design. Curtains were
also used to give a sense of defensibility from
intruders.

The ceiling was added and proper lighting

CENTER
The Bulakenyos are highly active in participating
in social, economic, cultural, and recreational
activities. The municipal government is also
promoting and working on advocating Bulakan’s
tourism and economic development as of the
current governance. But although the
community is highly participative of the
activities and gatherings there is a lack of space
where it could be conducted.

Lotus flower. It portrays the
inception of its graceful and
deliberate manner of
blossoming in resemblance
to the state of the chosen site
(Looc, Panglao, Bohol) which
will undergo the process of
intended ecological, cultural
and tourism development.

Development of Form

The Bud Flowering State Full Bloom

The first process of development,
enacting the potential growth of the site
given its barely noticed beauty in the
border of the rich island of Panglao. The
bended pieces protecting the bud are
incorporated in the design to ensure the
protection from the air impact
considering the location of the site.
A semi-open structural inspiration
portraying the continuous growth and
openness to changes of Looc. Bringing it
alongside the well-developed barangays
of the island in order to coexist with
other eco/tourism hubs sharing the
common goal of promoting Panglao,
Bohol.
The final development of the
form, showcasing the
potential and offers of Bohol.
Letting the tourist experience
the catchphrase "Bohol has it
all" by means of having a
variety of choices of spots
and attractions.

The changes and remains

Malolos becoming a city and the focal point of the
economy after the 1670s has been paving its way
continuously to its developmental changes -
physically evident to the current state. But some of
these changes call attention not only to what has
changed, but also to what has remained constant for
the past years. And our attempt to express it in a
new way while preserving the city and its heritage is
our common goal.

From the viewpoint of an outsider

Growing from a distant municipality from Malolos
City gives it the impression that it is far ahead
developed than the area someone is in. It also
frequently rings the bell of a progressive place, in
terms of having huge marketplace, malls, and other
infrastructures (its Architecture really makes it stand
out when you're from a smaller town). "Kumbaga
'pag narinig nila na pupunta ka sa Malolos it's either
mamimili ka, mamamasyal o luluwas pa-Maynila".
And to be able to go there makes one wonder what's
the experience of residing in a nearly city-like place.
Another take is when someone comes as a tourist.
Seeing the churches, rows of houses and buildings
with historical significance makes the visit feel as if
you're breathing in an historical journal.

passing by to transport to other places an individual is consciously or
unconsciously affected by the city's condition. Encountering what we
think of as just small matters (may it be the area's urban planning, its

of public spaces and safe experiences.
