1. A small shop which is connected with a 380 V, 3-phase supply has the following electrical
loads:
 25 nos. of 40 W fluorescent light fitting
 6 nos. of 30 A ring final circuits using 13 A socket outlets
 2 nos. of 20A radial circuit using 13 A socket outlets
 6 nos. of 1-phase split-type air conditioners with full load current of 10 A
 3 nos. of 15 kW 3-phase instantaneous electric water heaters
 3 nos. of 7.5 kW 3-phase motors with power factor of 0.85 lagging & efficiency of
95%

(a) Assuming that all of the above electrical loads are balanced across the 3-phase supply,
determine the maximum current demand by applying suitable diversity factor as given in
Table 7(1) of CoP.

(b) Draw a schematic wiring diagram to show all the final circuit arrangement according to
the accepted practice of the CoP for this office.
Note: NO NEED to show the current rating of the protective devices and cable size of the
final circuits in the schematic wiring diagram.

2. (a) By comparing with PVC copper cable, give 4 main advantages in the use of XLPE copper
cable.

(b) A 380 V, 3-phase motor load rated at 22.5 kW with power factor 0.87 lagging and
efficiency 75% is to be wired by a 3-core PVC/PVC copper cable. This multi-core cable is
to be installed and touching with a similar circuit, on a metallic cable tray at an ambient
temperature of 35oC. MCB is used as the protective device for this circuit. The length of
the 3-core cable is 90 m. The maximum allowable voltage drop for this circuit is 2.5% of
nominal supply voltage.
(i) the rating of the MCB for the circuit;
(available MCB ratings for selection: 32 A, 40 A, 50 A, 63A, 100A)

(ii) the minimum cable size for the circuit.

(c) A 3-phase electrical machine is to be wired by single-core PVC/PVC copper cables at an

ambient temperature of 45oC. The machine is protected by a 630A TPN MCCB.
Determine a suitable cable size for each of the following installation methods:
- the cables are clipped direct on wall and 1 no. of single-core cable is connected for
each phase of the machine.
- the cables are supported by cable tray and 2 nos. of single-core cable are connected in
parallel (touching and flat) for each phase of the machine.
