EXPERIMENT NO: 12

SYNTHESIS OF MICROSTRIP ANTENNAS

AIM: Design and simulate the Rectanular microstrip patch antennna having FR-4 substrate,
dielectric constant of Ꜫr = 4.4, height of the substrate is 1.6 mm and as resonate at a frequency
of 3.5 GHz.
SOFTWARE USED:
Computer Simulation Technology (CST) 14.0
PROCEDURE:
1. To evaluate the width of the rectangular microstrip patch antenna using mathematical
relation having frequency at 3.496 GHZ, h=1.6 mm and Ꜫr = 4.4.
2. To evaluate the relative effective dielectric constant of the rectangular microstrip
patch antenna using mathematical relation with Ꜫr = 4.4 and width of microstrip patch
antenna.
3. To evaluate the incremental length of the rectangular microstrip patch antenna using
mathematical relation with h= 1.6 mm, Ꜫreff and width of microstrip patch antenna.
4. To evaluate the length of the rectangular microstrip patch antenna using
mathematical relation with h= 1.6 mm, Ꜫreff, wavelength and width of microstrip patch
antenna.
5. From the simulation of CST Software we designed the rectangular microstrip patch
antenna having substrate, ground plane, patch and microstrip feeding.
6. Go to home button using the simulation icon run the simulation.
7. After complete the processing checking the results in 1D plot verify the S-parameters,
efficiency, and VSWR.
8. Next go to 2-D field patterns verify the E-field distribution, H- field distribution and
surface current distribution of rectangular microstrip patch antenna.
9. Next go to far-field results select the resonate frequency evaluate the E-field (xz-
plane) and H-field (YZ-plane) of rectangular microstrip patch antenna radiation
patterns.
