28 Rutherford’s atomic model was a reasonably good model of structure of atom based on [3]
the famous particle scattering experiment. However, it was subsequently modified by
Neils Bohr and later on, by others. The resulting improvements in the understanding of
atomic structure have greatly contributed to further scientific advancement. There are
many other similar examples in scientific field when original contributors happily accept
modifications in their ideas.Answer the following questions based on the above
information:

2. Give any example from your life experiences so far which reflects display of such
a value by you as an individual.

36 1. What factors affect the solubility of solvent and solute? [5]
2. State the differences between compounds and mixtures
SECTION E
37 Read the text carefully and answer the questions: Plants are stationary or fixed [4]
they don’t move. Since they have to be upright, they have a large quantity of
supportive tissue. The supportive tissue generally has dead cells. Animals, on the other
hand, move around in search of food, mates and shelter. Another difference between
animals and plants is in the pattern of growth. The growth of plants occurs only in
certain specific regions. New cells produced by meristem are initially like those of
meristem itself, but as they grow and mature, their characteristics slowly change and
they become differentiated as components of other tissues. The girth of the stem or
root increases due to lateral meristem (cambium). Cells of meristematic tissue are very

active, lack vacuoles.

1. Is meristematic tissue composed of a single type of cell?

2.Identify A in the given figure

OR
3. Which meristematic is present at the growing tips of stems and roots?
38 Read the text carefully and answer the questions: Irrigation The process of [4]
supplying water to crop plants through human efforts by means of canals, wells,
reservoirs, tube wells etc., is known as irrigation. Most agriculture in India is
dependent on timely monsoons and sufficient rainfall spread through most of the
growing season. However, the extra water required by crops is met through irrigation.

1. Which is the most common source of irrigation?

2. Mention the various sources of irrigation.
3. Which is the least use source of irrigation?
OR
4. What are the other sources of irrigation?
39 Read the text carefully and answer the questions: A suspension is a [4]
heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but remain
suspended throughout the bulk of the medium. Particles of a suspension are visible to
the naked eye. The particles of a suspension scatter a beam of light passing through it
and make its path visible. Due to the relatively smaller size of particles, as compared
to that of a suspension, the mixture appears to be homogeneous. The scattering of a
beam of light is called the Tyndall effect. The components of a colloidal solution are the
dispersed phase and the dispersion medium. The solute - like component or the
dispersed particles in a colloid form the dispersed phase, and the component in which
the dispersed phase is suspended is known as the dispersing medium.
