SECTION – A (OBJECTIVE TYPE)

Read the passage given below and answer the following questions: 1 × 5 = 5M

1. The scattering of a beam of light by colloidal particles Tyndall effect.

Due to scattering of the light becomes visible. The source of light may be explored
completely. The size of the scattering particles determines the colour of scattered light. The
colloidal particles may be seen moving as points of light moving against a black backdrop.
Ravi took some amount of substance X and add it into a transparent beaker containing
water. He mixed the solution very well and then passed light thourgh this solution by using
a torch. Ravi wants to show this experiment to his younger brother. He kept the solution for
10 minutes and calls his brother and further repeat the experiment, but result are different
at this time. The path is not visible.

(i). What was the reason for change in result ?

(a) in first case, the path is visible because of the presence of impurities.
(b) in second case, the particles settle down
(c) in second case, the concentration increases
(d) in second case, the impurities in the solution.

(ii). What is the nature of solution obtained, When X is added to water?

(a) Colloid
(b) True solution
(c) Suspension
(d) Data insufficient

(iii). Which of the following show Tyndall effect?

(a) Sugar solution
(b) Salt solution
(c) Starch solution
(d) Copper Sulphate solution

(iv). Which of the following is an example of colloidal solution?

(a) Milk
(b) Urea
(c) Sugar in water
(d) Common salt in water
(v). When the light passes through the solution in this experiment, than
(a) scattering of light is observed
(b) path of light becomes visible
(c) Tyndall effect is observed
(d) All the above

SECTION – B (Assertion, Reason Type)

3 x 1 = 3M
In these questions, a statement of assertion followed by a statement of reason is given. Choose
the correct answer out of the following choices.

(a) Assertion and reason both are correct statements and reason is correct explanation
for assertion.
(b) Assertion and reason both are correct statements but reason is not correct
explanation for assertion.
(c) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
(d) Assertion is wrong statement but reason is correct statement.

2. ASSERTION : Soft drink and soil are not pure substances.

REASON : Substances which are made up of less than two constituents are called
mixtures
3. ASSERTION : The particles of a suspension can be seen by the naked eye.
REASON : Suspension is a heterogenous mixture.

4. ASSERTION : Steel is an alloy .

REASON : Alloys are mixtures of two or metals or metal and a non- metal and cannot
be separated into their components by physical methods.

SECTION – C (SHORT ANSWER TYPE)

3 x 2 = 6M

5. Write any two differences between true solutions, Colloidal solutions and suspensions?

6. Give the dispersed phase and dispersed medium in

(i) Smoke (ii) Milk

7. Classify the following into pure substances and mixtures

(i) Sodium (ii) Soil (iii) Sugar solution (iv) Silver

Biology :
SECTION-A
The Golgi apparatus, first described by Camilo Golgi, consists of a system of membrane-
bound vesicles (flattened sacs) arranged approximately parallel to each other in stacks
called cisterns. These membranes often have connections with the membranes of ER and
therefore constitute another portion of a complex cellular membrane system. The material
synthesised near the ER is packaged and dispatched to various targets inside and outside
the cell through the Golgi apparatus. Its functions include the storage, modification and
packaging of products in vesicles. In some cases, complex sugars may be made from
simple sugars in the Golgi apparatus. The Golgi apparatus is also involved in the formation
of lysosomes
(1) Who discovered endoplasmic reticulum?
(a) Porter and Thompson
(b) Robert Brown
(c) Robert Hooke
(d) Camilo Golgi
(2) A system of membrane-bound flattened sacs arranged approximately parallel to
each other in stacks are called as _________
(a) Cisterns
(b) Vesicles
(c) Golgi complex
(d) Vacuoles
(3) Membrane bound flattened sacs is termed as _________
(a) Cisterns
(b) Vesicles
(c) Golgi complex
(d) Vacuoles
(4) Enlist the function of Golgi apparatus.
(5) Name the cell organelles which is involved in the formation of lysosomes?

SECTION-B
Following questions consist of two statements – Assertion (A) and Reason (R). Answer these
questions selecting the appropriate option given below:

(a) Both A and R are true and R is the correct explanation of A.

(b) Both A and R are true but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(c) A is true but R is false.
(d) A is false but R is true.
1.ASSERTION-Plasma membrane is present outside the cell.
REASON-Plasma membrane protects the cell and separates the contents of the cell from its
external environment.
2.ASSERTION-Resin is swell up when it gets contacted with the water.
REASON-Hypotonic solution leads to resin swell up.

SECTION-C

1. What is villi? Write the significance of presence of villi in small instestine?

2. What is function of nucleus and lysosomes in the cells?
3. Differentiate between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell.

4.

Physics:
Section- A
1.What can you say about the motion of an object whose distance - time graph is a straight line parallel
to time - axis? [1]

a) object is uniformly accelerated b) constant time

c) object is moving with constant speed d) object is at rest

2.A particle experiences constant acceleration for 20 seconds after starting from rest. If it travels
a distance D1 in the first 10 seconds and distance D2 in the next 10 seconds then [1]

a) D2 = D1 b) D2 = 2 D1 c) D2 = 3 D1 d) D2= 4 D1

Section- B

Directions: In each of the following questions, a statement of Assertion is given and a

corresponding statement of Reason is given just below it. Of the statements, given below, mark
the correct answer as:
(a) Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(b) Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but reason is false.
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are false. [1×3=3]

3. Assertion : An object may acquire acceleration even if it is moving at a constant speed.

Reason : With change in the direction of motion, an object can acquire acceleration.

4.Assertion : Displacement of an object may be zero even if the distance covered by it is not
zero.
Reason : Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and final position.

5. . Assertion : If a particle is moving with constant velocity, then average velocity for any time
interval is equal to instantaneous velocity.
Reason : If average velocity of a particle moving on a straight line is zero for a given time
interval, then instantaneous velocity at some instant within this interval must be zero.
