Time Allowed : 30 mins Maximum Marks: 14

1.A farmer moves along the boundary of a square field of side 10 m. in 40 s. What will be the magnitude
of displacement of the farmer at the end of 2 minutes 20 seconds from his initial position.

2.Under what condition(s) is the magnitude of average velocity of an object equal to its average speed?

3.What can you say about the motion of an object whose distance - time graph is a straight line parallel
to time - axis?

a) object is uniformly accelerated

b) constant time

c) object is moving with constant speed

d) object is at rest

4. Fig shows the distance - time graph of three objects A, B and C. Study the graph and answer the

following questions:

a) Which of the three is travelling the fastest?

b) Are all three ever at the same point on the road?

c) How far has C travelled when B passes A?

d) How far has B travelled by the time it passes C?

Directions: In each of the following questions, a statement of Assertion is given and a

corresponding statement of Reason is given just below it. Of the statements, given below, mark
the correct answer as:
(a) Both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
(b) Both assertion and reason are true but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion.
(c) Assertion is true but reason is false.
(d) Both Assertion and Reason are false.

5. Assertion : An object may acquire acceleration even if it is moving at a constant speed.

Reason : With change in the direction of motion, an object can acquire acceleration.
6. Assertion : Displacement of an object may be zero even if the distance covered by it is not
zero.
Reason : Displacement is the shortest distance between the initial and final position.

7. Assertion : If a particle is moving with constant velocity, then average velocity for any time
interval is equal to instantaneous velocity.
Reason : If average velocity of a particle moving on a straight line is zero for a given time
interval, then instantaneous velocity at some instant within this interval must be zero.
8.Anand leaves his house at 8.30 A.M for his school. The school is 2 km away and classes start
at 9.00 A.M. If he walks at a speed of 3 km/h for the first kilometre, at what speed should he
walk the second kilometre to reach just in time?
{2}

9. A particle experiences constant acceleration for 20 seconds after starting

from rest. If it travels a distance D1 in the first 10 seconds and distance
D2 in the next 10 seconds then,
(a) D2 = D1
(b) D2 = 2D1
(c) D2 = 3D1
(d) D2 = 4D1
