A Squall Line is a linear MCS, it’s an elongated line of thunderstorms that generally
form along or before cold fronts. It generally produces frequent lightning, extreme
winds. And possibly tornadoes. Squall Lines are also commonly referred to “Quasi
Linear Convective Systems.” or QLCS
A bow echo is a Squall Line that “bowed” out. These are extremely severe squall
lines that can produce gusts of up to 70–80mph. These, when looked on the radar,
looks like an archer’s bow. Which suggest to its name. That can later develop into a
comma echo. Bow echos usually are less likely to produce tornadoes than Squall
Lines. This is another form of a MCS.
lapisan menengah hingga puncak berbentuk landasan (anvil cloud) berupa perawanan stratiform
Jaskiewicz, 2001).
Definition
■ Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) refer to
all organized convective systems larger than
~50 km (long axis)
■ Some classic convective system types include:
■ squall lines
■ bow echoes
■ line echo wave patterns
