Teacher’s Signature:

1. Assist your Resource Teacher in the conduct of assessment. Take notice of:

• the alignment of the different formative assessment tasks used with the learning outcomes.
• the students’ participation, behavioral response, comments in the formative assessment
tasks.
• how the students assess their own progress
• your own feelings and thoughts as you assisted your RT

2. Narrate your experience

Observing my resource teacher facilitate different formative assessment tasks, I noticed that it is
anchored with the given learning outcomes in the first part of the lesson. The said assessment
tasks contain questions and problems to be answered which will reflect students' acquired
knowledge and serve as evidence of learning. Further, they demonstrated an adequate
understanding of the topic discussed shown through their facial expression while answering the
assessment tasks. In addition, I was happy to witness the learning progress of our students. The
resource teacher provided necessary feedback. This is crucial since it serves as a basis of
learning, thus help students determine their strength and weaknesses.

Did the formative assessment tasks help students master what they were expected to
learn?
Certainly. Formative assessment permits the teacher to determine whether the students
understood the concept taught or if they still need further explanation about these concepts.
Asking HOTS questions will allow the learners to deepen their understanding and think
thoroughly. Formative assessment is an excellent method to check their learning progress and
see if they can achieve the learning outcomes you considered when formulating questions and
such. Moreover, the significance of monitoring students' progress can be seen through formative
assessment tasks as this enable both students and teacher to check learning. It likewise
determines whether the teaching strategies and materials employed by the teacher are effective
or not.
Was the students’ response to formative assessment exercises favorable or unfavorable?
Why?

The students responded well to the formative assessment. This is claimed by the way they
answered questions and participated in the discussion.

Did the conduct of formative assessment and self-assessment affect students’ attainment
of learning outcomes? How?

Learning Episode 8: Assessment and Evaluation
Activity 1: Assessing FOR, AS, and OF Learning

Conducting formative assessment assist in students' learning process. This is because it

provides ongoing feedback which is an excellent method to monitor and enhance students'
comprehension of the subject. Furthermore, some studies also claimed that formative
assessment is used in academic institutions as a method to improve the process of acquiring
knowledge which is essential in determining learning success.
What was the effect of students assessing their own progress on their motivation to
learn?

Formative assessment encourages the students to do better and address their lack of learning. It
serves as a drive for them to do better and achieve the learning outcomes they should've upon
learning the subject.

How would the attainment of learning outcomes be affected if there were no formative
assessments nor self-assessments?

If there are no assessments such as what was mentioned, learning would be bland and the
teacher will have difficulties in seeing if her students have understood the lesson. On top of that,
students will not be able to assess themselves and be better. When there is no formative
assessment, both teacher and students cannot track their learning progress.

OBSERVE

One thing that went well in the development / use / administration of formative
assessment tasks (assessment for learning) is
 During the administration of the formative assessment tasks, the students showed an
adequate comprehension of the subject and the teacher gave feedback which aid to their
learning.
One thing that DID NOT go very well in the development / use / administration of formative
assessment tasks (assessment for learning) is
 Some students failed to understand the given instruction and question which resulted to a
disruption of the learning process. Also, this type of assessment is time-consuming, so some
students missed the chance to answer questions.
One good thing observed in students’ self-assessment (assessment as learning) is
 One good thing I noticed during the administration of formative assessment are students’
cooperation and the teacher’s patience in explaining the instruction,
One thing observed in students’ self-assessment (assessment as learning) that needs
improvement is
 Time constraint. In conducting formative assessment, the teacher must manage her time well
in order for the students to achieve all the desired learning outcomes.

REFLECT

 The formative assessment activities went well because formative assessment

encompasses the teacher's desired learning outcomes, tracking of students' learning
progress, and increases motivation.
 The formative assessment activities process did not go well because it is too
consuming and the allotted time for the subject is not enough.
 For the students, self-assessment worked because it helps them identify the current
standing of their learning. therefore they will be able to know it themselves what else
they lack of.
 For the students, self-assessment did not work because self-assessment is mainly
subjective rather than objective, so there's a tendency that students will be bias.

 To ensure that formative and self-assessment processes serve their purpose, to help
students learn, I will learn from other’s best practices taking note of the lapses or
loopholes I noticed during its administration, as well as researching and reading more
information about the numerous strategies employed by professionals when
conducting formative assessments.

 To help improve formative and self-assessment practices, I plan to conduct action

research on the strategies used by teachers to improve the facilitation of formative
assessments.
