Name of the chapter : MENSURATION

Title of the project : Perimeter of rectangle and perimeter of a square
Aim of the project : To find the perimeter of rectangle and square
Materials used : Drawing board, drawing sheets drawing pencils, ruler, rubber,
coloured pencils.
Procedure : i) Draw a rectangle ABCD of length ‘l’ and breadth ‘b’

Perimeter of rectangle ABCD = AB+BC+CD+DA

= l+b+l+b
= 2×(l+b)
= 2 (l+b) units
ii) Draw a square PQRS of side ‘a’ units

Perimeter of square is sum of all the sides

Let the side of a square be ‘a’ units.
Perimeter of a square PQRS = PQ+QR+RS+SP
= a+a+a+a = 4a units

:: 2 :: 6th Class_Mathematics_F.A–IV
Problem solving : i) Find the perimeter of a table whose adjacent sides are 15cm,
30cm respectively.

In rectangle ABCD (Table is in the shape of a rectangle)

AB=30cm, BC=15cm, CD= 30cm, DA= 15cm
We know perimeter of rectangle
= 2 (l+b)
= 2(30cm+15cm)
= 2(45cm)
= 90cm
∴ Perimeter of the rectangle = 90cm

ii) Find the perimeter of a square whose side is 8cm,

In PQRS, PQ = QR=RS=SP=8cm

Perimeter of a square = 4a, where ‘a’ is side

= 4×8cm
= 32cm
Result : Perimeter of rectangle is 90cm perimeter of square is 32cm
Conclusion : i) Perimeter of rectangle whose length is ‘l’ and breadth is ‘b’ is
2 (l+b) units
ii)Perimeter of square whose side is ‘a’ is 4a units
