Course Title HCIN 540 – Introduction to Health Care Information Management

Course Project Obesity Among the Young is Getting Old

Competency Quality and Regulatory

One of the most studied phenomena in America is the obesity crisis which does affect young

Americans. Through the final Introduction to Health Care Information Management course assignment, I

studied and analyzed data relevant to the problem. Because I suggested interventions related to solving

the problem, I could articulate the types of tools necessary to evaluate and solve the problem locally.

Whether in a community or a school, some programs can be utilized to improve the quality of food,

healthcare, and resources available to young Americans and their families. Through measurable

outcomes, improvement programs can and do have a valuable effect.

The project allowed me to study a public health concern in a way that showcased how patient

privacy concerns and ethical considerations can affect data collection. This is especially true when we

consider that health information for minors can be particularly sensitive. Addressing public health

concerns is something that requires a complete understanding of government regulations and how they

relate to the healthcare systems in the United States. By allowing me to study the problem, showcase the

data, and suggest a plan of action, the project facilitated my satisfaction of the Quality and Regulatory

Competency.
