Course Title HCIN 544 – Advanced Health Care Information Management

Course Project Nuance Dragon Ambient Experience: Enhancing Clinical Documentation

Competency Health Science Knowledge and Skills

The course, Advanced Health Care Information Management, culminated in a group project that

we chose to focus on enhancing clinical documentation. The project explored how the Dragon Ambient

Experience (DAX) can be used in a telehealth and office setting. This technology is powered by artificial

intelligence and is voice-enabled. DAX automatically documents patient encounters and can make

healthcare encounters more efficient. As part of the project, we explored how DAX could be utilized in an

automated workflow integration that would scale across a healthcare organization. This dynamic would

include benefits and limitations we knew were important to assess. Because this is a relatively new

technology, we explored the legal implications of utilizing the service in a healthcare setting, especially

when considering patient privacy.

The project involved understanding how healthcare is delivered to patients and how that

healthcare delivery is affected by the environment, clinicians, and technology. All of these aspects require

an appreciation of health science and how it is practiced. Healthcare delivery is made more efficient by

understanding how technology, such as DAX, can be utilized responsibly and competently. By allowing

our team to research a technology, understand how that technology would affect the complexity of the

healthcare delivery system, and explore an innovative approach to patient care, the project facilitated my

satisfaction of the Health Science Knowledge and Skills Competency.
