Course Project Antibiotic Stewardship Dashboard

Competency Information Systems and Clinical Technology

The development of the Antibiotic Stewardship Dashboard allowed me to explore clinical

technology and how it can truly impact how clinicians practice their care. Through meaningful clinical

decision support, the dashboard offers clinicians a way to properly manage their use of antibiotics

following national stewardship guidelines that focus on preventing harmful resistance development. It

met the competency because it demonstrated my ability to apply concepts of clinical technology in a way

that solves clinical problems. It also demonstrated an application of technological innovation for focused

management of a clinically significant process or system.

The project allowed me to study and understand how clinical technology systems must be

integrated into clinical workflows seamlessly to properly support clinicians in their work. In the

development of an antibiotic stewardship algorithm, I was able to take clinical guidelines and protocols

and translate them into an information system that promoted a targeted computer-based intervention. This

effort gave me a better appreciation for how vital proper management of clinical technology systems,

including monitoring their performance and ensuring data integrity, is to make sure the process runs

smoothly and securely. By allowing me to identify a problem, investigate a technology solution, and

develop a plan of action, the project facilitated my satisfaction of the Information Systems and Clinical

Technology Competency.
