Course Title HCIN 542 – Systems Analysis and Design for Health Care Informatics

Course Project Implementation of Angel-Eye Milk Tracker System

Competency Information Systems and Clinical Technology

The development of the Breastmilk Management System demonstrated competency in the

competency because it allowed for complete planning from concept through the implementation of an

information system. This information system also sits firmly within the clinical technology environment

because it allows the clinician to properly manage breastmilk. Because of the importance of safety when

administering breastmilk, the project allowed me to develop a plan that not only took the needs of the

clinician into perspective but also the needs of the patient. Several skills, such as the development of a

workflow and the development of a Gantt chart, were utilized during the completion of this project.

The project encouraged me to explore hardware components and how appropriate hardware

components would be required to ensure seamless integration with technology systems already in place.

Through clinical workflow analysis, I was able to identify opportunities for optimization through

technology integration. This project required stakeholder analysis, Gantt chart development, and work

breakdown structuring. Through that, I was able to formulate a project from planning through to

execution which included its evaluation. By allowing me to identify a project, plan the implementation of

a technology solution, and fully develop a plan of action, the project facilitated my satisfaction of the

Information Systems and Clinical Technology Competency.
