An essay is a piece of writing where you express your thoughts and ideas on a specific topic. It
usually has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion. it’s a way to communicate your
thoughts in a structured and organized manner.

Kinds of Essay
1: Descriptive – Paint a Mental Picture
In a descriptive essay, you give the reader a picture of a scene, object, or person. To accomplish
this, you must appeal to all the senses. You must help your reader see, smell, feel, taste, and
hear what is described. When done well, a descriptive essay can be incredibly stimulating and
powerful. It can put your reader directly into the scene’s heart or experience being described.

2:Expository – Explain Something

An expository essay is a style in that you must clarify a topic and freely express your opinion.
This type of essay is often used in school writing classes to help students express their ideas
clearly and concisely.

3:Narrative – Tell a Story

A narrative essay tells a story with an introduction, setting, characters, plot, climax, and
conclusion. In other words, it follows the traditional narrative format of beginning, middle, and
end.

4:Persuasive – Convince the Audience of Your Point of View (POV)

A persuasive essay attempts to convince your reader to agree with your point of view.
Remembering that a persuasive essay is not just about presenting facts but also about stating
your opinion and supporting it with evidence.

5:Argumentative – Explore a Topic and Establish a Point of View.

An argumentative essay is a form of writing that takes a stand on a topic. You must prove your
position is the best by presenting evidence supporting your view.

Parts of An Essay.
1. Introduction:- make the introduction short ,interesting, relevant and striking so that it
may impress The reader to read on.

2. The middle:- the important part of an essay which contains all the facts, stories,
incidents, sayings ,quotation ,extra information, examples, suggestions, figures,
reflections and important points about the concerned topic in the essay . it may consist
of one or more paragraphs .
 3. The conclusion should be logical , short and natural it should Express that the writer has
said whatever he wanted to say about the concerned topic .it should not Express that the
essay has been ended or concluded suddenly and forcibly because of lack of time space
or knowledge.

 Light storytelling

 Coherent logic ( understandable, sensible fitting of arguments , supporting

conclusion)

 Aphorism ( A concise statement of a principal ) and personal feeling.

Procedure of an essay.
1: clearly define your subject in your mind.

2. Think over it , until ideas about it coming into your mind and jot the points down on the paper.

3. Classify these points in groups under suitable headings, rejecting any that are unsuitable .

4. Arrange these headings in a bare outline .

5. Make a full outline

6 . Now being to write the essay, dividing it into paragraphs .

7. The essay should consist of introduction, body and conclusion.

 Make the introduction arresting

 Keep the parts of the body of the essay in proper proportion and take pains in choosing
words, constructing sentences and build up paragraphs.

 Make the conclusion effective and satisfying.

8. Write in simple , concise , clear , direct and natural style .

Errors in writing Essay .

Error 1. Being afraid of being misunderstood or not making the right impression can lead a
writer to avoid anything personal or including significant details. this can make an essay
lose its individually and originality.
Error 2 . Lack of details. A common mistake is using statements that do not argue the
author’s point of view or do not use enough examples and evidences.

Error 3. Misunderstanding the essence of issue being argued in the essay or incorrectly
interpreting the topic.

Error 4. Repeating others peoples opinions without giving them credit or otherwise not
presenting your own unique point of view. The whole charm of the essay genre is the
absence of strict rules you have complete freedom to be creative.
