Climate change refers to long-term shifts in
temperatures and weather patterns. Such
shifts can be natural, due to changes in the
sun's activity or large volcanic eruptions.
WHAT ARE THE CAUSES
OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Generating electricity and heat by burning fossil
fuels.
Manufacturing and industry produce emissions.
Cutting down forests to create farms or
pastures, or for other reasons, causes emissions.
Most cars, lorries, ships and planes run on fossil
fuels. That makes transportation a major
contributor of greenhouse gases, especially
carbon-dioxide emissions.
Producing food requires energy to run farm
equipment or fishing boats, usually with fossil
fuels.
Globally, residential and commercial buildings
consume over half of all electricity.
GLOBAL WARMING
Global warming is the long-term
warming of the planet's overall
temperature. Though this warming trend
has been going on for a long time, its
pace has significantly increased in the
last hundred years due to the burning of
fossil fuels. As the human population has
increased, so has the volume of fossil
fuels burned.
