Durgā Saptaśatī Chapter 5 Verses 7 to 36

श्रीगणेशाय नमः ।
नमो देव्यै महादेव्यै शिवायै सततं नमः ।
नमः प्रकृ त्यै भद्रायै नियताः प्रणताः स्म ताम् ॥१॥
śrīgaṇeśāya namaḥ
namo devyai mahādevyai śivāyai satataṃ namaḥ
namaḥ prakṛtyai bhadrāyai niyatāḥ praṇatāḥ sma tām

Salutation to the Devī, the Great Devī. Salutation to her who is

always auspicious. Salutation to her who is the first cause, to her
who is gracious. With minds intent, we bow down to her.

रौद्रायै नमो नित्यायै गौर्यै धात्र्यै नमो नमः ।

ज्योत्स्नायै चेन्दुरूपिण्यै सुखायै सततं नमः ॥२॥
raudrāyai namo nityāyai gauryai dhātryai namo namaḥ
jyotsnāyai cendurūpiṇyai sukhāyai satataṃ namaḥ

Salutation to her who is terrible. To Gaurī, the eternal, shining one,

who sustains the universe. Salutation, again and again. Salutation
always to her is moonlight, who has the form of moonlight and is
blissful.

कल्याण्यै प्रणतां वृद्ध्यै सिद्ध्यै कु र्मो नमो नमः ।

नैरृत्यै भूभृतां लक्ष्म्यै शर्वाण्यै ते नमो नमः ॥३॥
kalyāṇyai praṇatāṃ vṛddhyai siddhyai kurmo namo namaḥ
nairṛtyai bhūbhṛtāṃ lakṣmyai śarvāṇyai te namo namaḥ

We bow to her who is auspicious beauty. We make salutation

again and again to her who is prosperity and attainment. Salutation
again and again to her who is the fortune and misfortune of kings,
to Śarvāṇī, the consort of Śiva.

दुर्गायै दुर्गपारायै सारायै सर्वकारिण्यै ।
ख्यात्यै तथैव कृ ष्णायै धूम्रायै सततं नमः ॥४॥
durgāyai durgapārāyai sārāyai sarvakāriṇyai
khyātyai tathaiva kṛṣṇāyai dhūmrāyai satataṃ namaḥ

Salutation always to Durgā, who takes us through difficulties, who

is the creator and the indwelling essence of all, who is right
knowledge, and who appears dark as smoke.

अतिसौम्यातिरौद्रायै नतास्तस्यै नमो नमः ।

नमो जगत्प्रतिष्ठायै देव्यै कृ त्यै नमो नमः ५॥
atisaumyātiraudrāyai natāstasyai namo namaḥ
namo jagatpratiṣṭhāyai devyai kṛtyai namo namaḥ

We bow to her who is at once most gentle and most fierce.

Salutation to her again and again. Salutation to the support of the
world. To the Devī, who is creative action, salutations again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु विष्णुमायेति शब्दिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥ ६॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu viṣṇumāyeti śabditā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī who in all beings is called Viṣṇumāya, salutation to

her, salutation to her, salutation to her again and again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु चेतनेत्यभिधीयते ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥७॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu cetanetyabhidhīyate
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who in all beings is seen as consciousness, salutation

to her, salutation to her, salutation to her again and again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु बुद्धिरूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥८॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu buddhirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of intelligence,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु निद्रारूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥९॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu nidrārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ
To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of sleep,
salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु क्षुधारूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१०॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu kṣudhārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of hunger,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु छायारूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥११॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu chāyārūpeṇa saṃsthitā

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शक्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१२॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu śaktirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of power,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु तृष्णारूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१३॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu tṛṣṇārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of thirst,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु क्षान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१४॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu kṣāntirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of forgiveness,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु जातिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१५॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu jātirūpeṇa saṃsthitā

yā devī sarvabhūteṣu lajjārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of modesty,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु शान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१७॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu śāntirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of peace,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु श्रद्धारूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥१८॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu śraddhārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of faith,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु कान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of loveliness,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु लक्ष्मीरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२०॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu lakṣmīrūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of good fortune,
salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु वृत्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२१॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu vṛttirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of activity,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु स्मृतिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२२॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu smṛtirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of memory,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु दयारूपेण संस्थिता ।
नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२३॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu dayārūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of compassion,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु तुष्टिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२४॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu tuṣṭirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of contentment,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु मातृरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२५॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu mātṛrūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of mother,

salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

या देवी सर्वभूतेषु भ्रान्तिरूपेण संस्थिता ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२६॥
yā devī sarvabhūteṣu bhrāntirūpeṇa saṃsthitā
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To the Devī, who abides in all beings in the form of error,
salutation to her, salutation to her to her, salutation again and
again.

इन्द्रियाणामधिष्ठात्री भूतानां चाखिलेषु या ।

भूतेषु सततं तस्यै व्याप्त्यै दैव्यै नमो नमः ॥२७॥
indriyāṇām adhiṣṭhātrī bhūtānāṃ cākhileṣu yā
bhūteṣu satataṃ tasyai vyāptyai daivyai namo namaḥ

To her who presides over the elements and senses, and is ever
present in all beings, to the all-pervading Devī salutations again
and again.

चित्तिरूपेण या कृ त्स्नमेतद्व्याप्य स्थितां जगत् ।

नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमस्तस्यै नमो नमः ॥२८॥
cittirūpeṇa yā kṛtsnam etad vyāpya sthitāṃ jagat
namas tasyai namas tasyai namas tasyai namo namaḥ

To her who pervades the entire universe and abides in the form of
consciousness, salutation to her, salutation to her, again and again.

स्तुता सुरैः पूर्वमभीष्टसंश्रयात्तथा सुरेन्द्रेण दिनेषु सेविता ॥

करोतु सा नः शुभहेतुरीश्वरी शुभानि भद्राण्यभिहन्तु चापदः ॥२९॥
stutā suraiḥ pūrvam abhīṣṭa saṃśrayāt
tathā surendreṇa dineṣu sevitā
karotu sā naḥ śubhahetur īśvarī
śubhāni bhadrāṇyabhihantu cāpadaḥ

Praised long ago by Devas for fulfilling their desires, and likewise
honoured daily by the lord of the Devas, may Īśvari, the source of
all good, create happiness and prosperity for us, and may she
destroy our misfortunes.

या साम्प्रतं चोद्धतदैत्यतापितै

रस्माभिरीशा च सुरैर्नमस्यते ।
या च स्मृता तत्क्षणमेव हन्ति नः
सर्वापदो भक्तिविनम्रमूर्तिभिः
yā sāmprataṃ coddhata daitya tāpitair
asmābhir īśā ca surair namasyate
yā ca smṛtā tatkṣaṇam eva hanti naḥ
sarvāpado bhakti vinamra mūrtibhiḥ

Tormented by the arrogant Daityas, we Devas now honour her, the

supreme power. With bodies bowed down in devotion, at this
moment, we remember her who destroys all afflictions.
