I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of parts,
and functions of the eyes.
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to practice healthful
habits in taking care of the eyes.
C. Learning Competency The learners should be able to describe the parts
and functions of the eyes.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Topic: Parts and Functions of the Eyes
B. Science ideas: Observing, identifying, inferring
B. Value focus: Care for the eyes
C. Materials: Puzzle pieces of the parts of the eye, PowerPoint
presentation of the lesson, Laptop, picture of a

Strategy/Method Inductive method of teaching
III. LEARNING PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance
B. Engage
1. Review Last session, you have learned about the five senses
organs.
What are the function of the sense organs?
C. Explore
1. Motivation Show a picture of a camera.
What is this?
What are its usage?
What do you think is the body part that functions
the same as the camera?
Let’s find out!
2. Presentation Flash the title of the lesson and also the objectives.
After that, explain the importance of learning the
parts and functions of the eye to the students.
Then, Show a video of Human Eye from youtube
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axpCN6Vj9p0)
As the video is shown, ask the learners to take note
of the parts and functions of the eyes.
3. Pre-Activity Divide the class into 5 groups. Let them recall the
acronym GROUPS.
Get along
Respect others
On task
Use quiet voices
Participate
Stay in your group
4. Activity Proper Distribute the envelope containing the puzzle
pieces. Tell the class to arrange the puzzle pieces so
that they can form an image. Label the parts of the
eyes. Assign one group member to be the reporter.
D. Explain
1. Group Reporting After all groups have done performing the activity,
let them post their work on the board. Ask one
volunteer to describe the parts and functions of the
eyes.
Discussion Ask:
Did they label the parts of the eye correctly?
Did your group get the correct labels also?
Base on the activity that you just did, how will you
describe a cornea?
Clear front surface of the eye.
Acts like a camera lens
A window that allows the light to get in
How will you describe the iris?
Thin, circular structure in the eyes
It is like a camera shutter.
What is the function of the iris?
Controls the amount of light that enters the
eye.
It passes the light to pupil.
What does the pupil look like?
The black hole at the center of the iris
It works like the aperture of a camera?
What is the function of the pupil?
The opening to which light enters the eye
depending on the amount of light the iris
stretches and contracts the pupil.
What is located behind the pupil?
Lens
What is the function of the lens?
Focuses and defocuses depending on how far
the object is from your eye.
How will you compare a retina to the part of a
camera?
It acts as image sensor of a digital camera.
What is the function of the retina?
Converts light that is taken in into electronic
signal.
Perceives the image upside down
What is the function of the optic nerve?
Transmits electronic signals to the brain.
What does the brain do to the electronic signal that
it received?
Flips the image back for you.
E. Elaborate
1. Generalization What are the parts of the eyes?
What are their functions?
2. Application Ask:
What do you think will happen if one part of the eye
is not functioning well?
Do you think you can see the things around as they
seem to appear when one part of the eye is not
functioning well?
How will you take care of your eyes?
What will happen if you don’t take care of your
eyes?
IV. EVALUATION
A. Evaluate A. Instruction: Label the parts of the eyes.
