Title: Goal of Teaching Speaking

3.1 Nature of Speaking Oral Communication

Introduction

Speaking is a vital part of human communication since it allows people to communicate their thoughts,
ideas, emotions, and information to others through spoken language. The development of speaking
abilities is critical in language teaching because it allows for effective interaction and expression in real-
life situations. The nature of speaking includes a variety of variables that contribute to effective oral
communication.

The goal of efficient communication is to express information, ideas, thoughts, and emotions between
individuals or groups in a clear and precise manner. It aids in the development of knowledge, the
formation of relationships, the resolution of problems, the making of informed decisions, and the
facilitation of collaboration.

Different perspectives on speaking skills can impact training strategies and approaches in the context of
language teaching. Some points of view are as follows:

A usual or established style of speaking, discussing, or presenting information within a specific setting or
community is referred to as conventional discourse.

To increase spoken communication and understanding, teachers instruct students on how to produce
and pronounce sounds, intonation, rhythm, and stress patterns of a language. It makes students sound
more natural and understandable when speaking in a foreign language. Focusing on particular sounds,
word stress, phrase rhythm, and practicing through various exercises and activities are some techniques.

Fluency and correctness: A balance must be struck between fluency (speaking without hesitation) and
correctness (properly employing language). Different educators may favor one over the other.

Conclusion

Oral communication, or speaking, is a dynamic and necessary part of human connection. It enables the
instantaneous sharing of information, emotions, and ideas, boosting understanding and connection
building. It is influenced by cultural, social, and contextual elements, making its interpretation flexible
yet subtle. Effective oral communication requires clarity, active listening, and adjusting to the needs of
the audience, as well as taking nonverbal clues and tone into account.
