Freedom Writers Movie Reflection

Freedom Writers is a heartwarming and inspiring movie that tells the story of a young,
dedicated teacher named Erin Gruwell. Set in the 1990s, the film shows her journey as
she tries to make a difference in the lives of her diverse and troubled students from
Woodrow Wilson High School in Long Beach, California. The movie begins with story of
Eva one of the students in the university and how teacher Erin faced the difficulties in
connecting with her 150 students in English freshmen class. However, she soon
realizes that by understanding their stories and showing empathy, she can help them
learn and grow. The movie serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of empathy,
understanding, and perseverance in the face of adversity.

One of the most beautiful parts of this movie is the way it portrays the bond that forms
between Erin and her students. As they share their personal experiences, they learn to
trust and support one another. Although it is really hard in the beginning and that even
the school head and other teachers are being in a low moral because of the result of
integration program in the school. The students, who initially seem to have no hope for
the future, begin to believe in themselves and their potential. They start to dream big
and work hard to achieve their goals. This transformation is a proof to the power of
education and the importance of having someone who believes in you. Throughout the
film, it shows Erin's unwavering commitment to her students, who come from various
backgrounds and face numerous challenges, including poverty, gang violence, and
prejudice. As a teacher, Erin recognizes the significance of creating a safe and inclusive
environment where her students can learn, grow, and develop. She encourages them to
keep diaries, known as "Freedom Writers," where they can express their thoughts,
emotions, and experiences.

Freedom Writers is an emotionally charged and contains an interesting idea that makes
us think deeply and showcases the incredible impact a dedicated teacher can have on
their students' lives. Through Erin Gruwell's persistent efforts, the film emphasizes the

significance of empathy, understanding, and perseverance in overcoming adversity. The
movie serves as a powerful reminder that, with the right guidance and support, even the
most challenging circumstances can be overcome, and one's life can be profoundly
changed for the better.

As a future early childhood educator, the movie Freedom Writers teaches us the
importance of understanding and connecting with students from diverse backgrounds.
Just like the teacher in the film, we should be patient, empathetic, and open-minded.
We must create a safe and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and
encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings without being judged. By fostering
strong relationships and promoting respect, we can help our students grow, learn, and
develop a love for education. Every child has a unique story, and by listening and
caring, we can make a difference in their lives.
