The Need
For 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to
expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking to fill the
positions listed below:

1. COORDINATOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENTS


The successful candidate will be the focal point in grassroot mobilizing aimed at creating
awareness and changing community perspective towards Violence Against Women and Children
(VAWC). The Coordinator Community Engagement will work collaboratively with child
protection partners and stakeholders to sensitize the targeted communities and duty bearers on
the illegality of VAWC. He / she will also work with partners in the establishment and
strengthening of community justice centers as grassroot hubs for organizing and initiatives to
drive change within the justice system. This position is based in Mombasa and reports
directly to the Senior Manager, Violence Against Women & Children Program
(VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


1. Bachelor’s degree or higher, in Social Work, Community Development or any field of social
sciences;
2. At least two years’ relevant experience in community mobilization, government relations, or
grassroot organizing in the coastal region.
3. Proven track record of successfully networking with government officials or with community
organizations.
4. Prior experience in community engagement, including the development and management of a
community mobilization strategic plan and coalition building.
5. Proficient in group facilitation, with demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate
effectively with partners, staff and colleagues with a high level of tact, diplomacy and
confidentiality.

2. COORDINATOR SURVIVOR SERVICES (SOCIAL WORKER)


The successful candidate will provide pyschosocial expertise to the survivors of violent
oppression. He/she will ensure that IJM survivors receive appropriate and quality care in
accordance with IJM minimum standards of care. He/she will engage partners to ensure survivors
are empowered to follow up on their cases to completion through an increased social demand and
a trauma informed criminal justice system. He/she will work with other partners in raising
awareness of trauma informed care and in building a network of care for survivors of violent
abuser. This position is based in Mombasa and reports directly to the Senior Manager,
Violence Against Women & Children Program (VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


1. Degree in Social Work/Counseling Psychology or equivalent. Master’s degree in Social Work
or related field is an added advantage;
2. At least four years professional experience providing counseling or psychotherapy to victims
of trauma and/or practicing as a social worker in a reputable organization. Experience
working with children in the coastal region is an added advantage;
3. Proven experience in successful networking with service providers;
4. Fluent in written and oral communication in English and Kiswahili;
5. Excellent writing and listening skills.

3. INVESTIGATOR
The successful candidate will ensure that cases of Violence Against Women and Children are
effectively investigated and documented for legal action. The Investigator will work alongside other
professionals in developing and implementing case intake procedures and collection of investigative
case details before and after the case intake process. The incumbent will mobilize, plan meetings
and train members of the community, NPS and other agencies to understand investigation
procedures and community role in curbing their jurisdiction crimes related to Violence Against
Women & Children. He/she will keep data of intelligence information collected and desseminate
the same to the Senior Manager, VAWC and including learnings and emerging trends that will help
in planning in making the policing and other government agencies professional and end the vice of
VAWC. This position is based in Mombasa and reports directly to the Senior Manager,
Violence Against Women & Children Program (VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


1. Minimum 2 years of experience conducting criminal investigations, with the Kenya National
Police Service’, Directorate of Criminal Investigation or other government agency with
investigative responsibilities, including undercover and/or special operation assignments/private
investigation institution;
2. Valid certificate of good conduct;
3. Knowledge of laws governing investigation and prosecution of criminal cases;
4. Experience in documenting and examining crime scenes, collection and preservation of evidence
and establishing proper chain of custody;
5. Proven ability to recruit, train and maintain productive informants and operatives, collect
actionable criminal intelligence information and develop proactive strategies and initiatives to
curb criminal activities;
6. Trained in criminal investigation techniques and processes.

4. PROGRAM ATTORNEY
The successful candidate will represent victims of commercial sexual exploitation, ensuring high
quality legal services to our clients. They will also partner with various criminal justice agencies
including law enforcement officials, civil society organizations and community leaders to hold
perpetrators accountable for these crimes. Additionally, the Attorney, VAWC will provide input to
the the design, implementation, and contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of IJM Kenya’s
program. This position is based in Mombasa and reports directly to the Senior Manager,
Violence Against Women & Children Program (VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


1. Degree in law, and Advocate of the High Court with at least five (5) years post-admission
experience.
2. Minimum of three (3) years’ proven legal professional experience in criminal litigation,
prosecution, or adjudication.
3. Hold a Current Practicing Certificate (for private practitioners).
4. Knowledge and excellent grasp of VAWC related laws
5. A Master’s Degree in Law or a related field is an added advantage

5. SECURITY COORDINATOR
The successful candidate will provide technical and operational support in security practices and
enhance staff safety and security, assets and minimize operational risks. This individual will
provide dedicated safety and security expertise and support in VAWC program in the best interest
of IJM’s global security strategy, leadership, and individual staff members. This will include but
not limited to cases risk assessment and data management, security analysis and development of
risk treatment plans, contingency plans, VIP close protection and security advice and security
training. He will also generate incident report on all incidents and near miss occurrence affecting
IJM staff and support leadership in incident management. This position is based in Mombasa
and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Violence Against Women & Children
Program (VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


1. Bachelor’s degree preferred;
2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in conducting protective service/ security operations for a
military service or law enforcement agency;
3. Ability to design, successfully implement and review tactical security operations in the
field;
4. Expertise in the analysis of security threats, risks and vulnerability in Kenya;
5. Experience in crisis management preferred;
6. Experience in conducting route analysis;
7. Experience in security guard/contractor supervision preferred;
8. Experience in VIP and/or witness protection preferred;
9. Valid certificate of good conduct;
10. Experience working in multi-disciplinary, cross-cultural environment;
11. Formal protective service operation training preferred.
12. Proven ability to design, implement and review tactical security operations in the field;
13. Computer literate with a high level of proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook;
14. Have held a Kenyan or international driving license for at least two years.

6. SR. ASSISTANT ADMIN & HR


The Senior Assistant, Administration and Human Resources will be responsible for overall
coordination of office events. The incumbent drafts and recommends policies relating to
adminsitration and procurement, ensures compliance of laid adminsitrative and procurement
procedures. The incumbent serves as the main focal point for office procurement related
responsibilities such as negotiations, tenders and prequalification processes providing administrative
support and maintain proper documentation. This role will also provide administration and HR
support to staff at the VAWC Mombasa office. The successful candidate will ensure all administrative
aspects of the office are undertaken which will include but not limited to procurement, licensure,
compliance, maintenance, and facilitation of staff amenities. S/he will coordinate and guide the
implementation of HR Policies and ensure statutory compliance in coordination with Sr. Manager
Administration and Human Resources. This position will be the focal point of staff care and welfare.
The position reports to the Senior Manager VAWC, with a dotted line to the Senior
Manager Administration and HR for professional input.

Required Skills and Experience


1. A Bachelor’s degree in Administration or Business;
2. Certification or qualification in Procurement would be an added advantage;
3. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a busy administration or a procurement office;
4. Fluent in written and spoken English and Swahili;
5. Excellent writing skills;
6. High level of proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint and Outlook;
7. Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.

7. DRIVER
The successful candidate will ensure safe transportation of staff to different locations. The driver
will work closely with Senior Coordinator Security to ensure proper maintenace of organization
vehicles. The driver will ensure that all passengers observe safety measures while using IJM cars
and follow all traffic rules while driving. In addition to driving, this individual will also provide
adminstrative support that include office cleaning and running erands. This position is based in
Mombasa and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Violence Against Women &
Children Program (VAWC).

Required Skills and Experience


• O level certificate holder D+ and above;
• Driving experience with a reputable security firm or organization, (A MUST)
• Sound knowledge of basic auto mechanics skills;
• Basic knowledge of first aid skills preferred;
• Good communicator, with great interpersonal skills;
• Fluent written and spoken English and Kiswahili;
• Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Valid and clean driving license, with at least 5 years’ driving experience;
• Competent in Transport and Road Safety Rules as required in Kenya;
• General knowledge of Nairobi, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Malindi and the environs.
• Basic Defensive driving skills;
• A valid Certificate of Good Conduct.

• Experience in VIP escort and or Executive driving;

Travel Requirements
• These positions require travel within Coast Region and its environs during working hours
and less frequent travel to other parts of Kenya in support of program initiatives.
