General information
1 General information
1.1 Introduction
The VTEQ Safety Test Lane is the latest tool for professionals of up-to-date repair garages.
The VTEQ Safety Test Lane is a machine designed to diagnose the safety elements of cars or semi
heavy vehicles in the shortest time possible.
One of the more demanded capacities is the possibility of interconnection between different equipment in
a Station of Vehicle Inspection or a modern garage. Although the data of measurement in the VTEQ test
lane are stored in a standard format SQLite, sometimes appear problems of connection with software of
other brands. This is the reason why it has been created a procedure of interchange of data with other
applications using ASCII text. This manual explains the procedure and format of this interchange of data.
There are two methods for this interchange, one based on Input and Output Files, and another based on
TCP Sockets communication. Both methods can interchange the same information using common Input
Data Codes, Output Data Codes, Inspector Codes and Pictures of the Vehicles.

Socket Description
I1: Inspection center line management software interface. This interface can do both roles, receive
data like a Server and send data like a Client.
I2: VTEQ Interface that manages the manufacturer machine and receives data from the Inspection
center management line interface I1, on this case I1 takes the client role and I2 the server one.
I3: VTEQ Interface that manages the manufacturer machine and sends data to the inspection center
management line interface, on this case I1 takes the server role and I3 the client one.
*I2 and I3 can be located on the same PC or on different PC’s. It depends on the net and pc’s
configuration.
There are two communications are done because the software or the station that generates the results
may be is the same station that has received the data test inputs.
VTEQ has a network operating system where some stations receive the tests to be performed using the
first kind of communication. Those tests are saved on an internal database; this database is also temporal
so when the test is done this test disappears. This database allows the information interchange between
the different stations on the same line. When the test is finished, the last station sends the test results to
the management software by the second kind of communication.
On this communication system an inspection identifier is added in order to allow the asynchrony
communication between the server and the clients and identify the each client-server messages with this
inspection identifier
732788161.doc Page 28
Socket Description
3.2 Protocol
The communications is based on a TCP Socket connection on the default 1400 port. This port can be
changed on the variables menu.
I2 allows the simultaneous connection between some clients, only one of those clients
doing a test at the same moment. The server allows the connection of 10 simultaneous
clients.
You can connect more than 10 stations by disconnecting the stations that are not used on
that moment.
You can also have a permanent connection for the test loads on the database and
manage the start test connections dynamically.
When a test has finished, I3 sends the information to I1. This TCP Socket connection
uses the default preconfigured port. Also the server IP has to be preconfigured in order to
establish the communication.
The special characters used on the packets protocol are the followings:
732788161.doc Page 29
Socket Description
There are three generic kinds of commands, and those structures are the followings:
1- Petitions with no Data Requiered
{ Command | Inspection ID }
This Start Test command is used in order to start a test that is already loaded on the I2 net database.
{ 1 | Inspection ID }
This Start Test command is used in order to load a test on the I2 net database.
732788161.doc Page 30
Socket Description
If the test has started correctly the response will be the following:
{ 1 | Inspection ID | 0 }
If the test can’t be started because is already on an inspection station the response will be the following.
X is the station where the test is at this moment.
{ 1 | Inspection ID | 1 | X }
If the start test is not available because the inspection Id is not on the net database, the response will be
the following:
{ 1 | Inspection ID | 1 }
If the test can’t be started for any another reason, the reason will be indicated by another code number
the response will be the following:
{ 1 | Inspection ID | X }
If the data has been loaded correctly on the database, the response will be like:
{ 2 | Inspection ID | 0 }
If you try to load a data test with an Inspection ID that is already on the database, the new test will be not
load, and the response will be like:
{ 2 | Inspection ID | 1 }
732788161.doc Page 31
Socket Description
If the data has not been loaded on the database for any other reason the response will be like:
{ 2 | Inspection ID | X }
This command is used by the interface client I3 when a test has been finished and the results had to be
transferred to the server I1. The values of the variables with decimals are expressed with a point: “.”.
When a value doesn’t exist the result will be shown with a hyphen like: Variable = ------.
This command is used by the interface client I3 in order to send an image. The command structure will be
like:
{ 5 | Inspection ID | Data }
If the test results had been received correctly by the server it response us with a message with the
following structure:
{ 4 | Inspection ID | 0 }
When the server doesn’t receive any test results, the structure message will be like:
{ 4 | Inspection ID | 1 }
732788161.doc Page 32
Socket Description
If the test picture has been received correctly by the server it response us with a message with the
following structure:

When the server doesn’t receive any picture, the structure message will be like:
{ 5 | Inspection ID | 1 }

Both communications are automatically connected when the TestWin is executed if the system variables
are well done preconfigured.
Load a data test with different Inspections ID. The Inspection ID 12x34 is already on the database, the
4567R is a new inspection Id on the database. Additionally the 12x34 can’t start the test because is on
the station Y, and the 4567R is ready to start the test.

5 File Description
5.1 Working folders
In order to interchange data, the folders IN and OUT will be created. They can be allocated anywhere in
the network, but the computers/users must have shared access with read and write permission.
The folder IN is cyclical read by the software TestWin in order to detect if there are new files to process.
When a new file is found, it is validated and, if the data is correct, the vehicle is added to the data base as
a vehicle to be tested. Once a file is processed, it is erased of the folder IN.
In the folder OUT, TestWin saves the files with the results of the done tests. Those files are generated
when the correspondent option in the TestWin menu is selected.
The names an paths of folders IN and OUT can be changed modifying the file “SISTEMA.TXT” in the
working folder of software TestWin.
In folder OUT, the software will create names using the license plate number.
There is some section titles used to make easy to read the files. Those headers are ignored by the
program.

ended files are ignored.
The name of the file containing the picture is the same of the out file but with the extension jpg. For
instance, if the IN file receives is 1111AAA.txt, when the inspection is finished, the TestWin software will
