INSTRUCTIONS AND INFORMATION

1. This paper consists of THREE sections.

SECTION A: Essay (50)

SECTION B: Long transactional text (30)

SECTION C: Short transactional text (20)

2. Answer ONE question from each section.

3. Start EACH section on a NEW page.

4. You must plan, edit and proofread your writing. For example, use a

head map or a flowchart or keywords. Do the planning BEFORE you

write the final product for each of the sections.

5. ALL planning must be clearly indicated and submitted. It is recommended

that you draw a line through all planning.

6. Number the writing pieces according to the numbering system as it appears on the question paper

is numbered.

Write the title/heading at the top of each FINAL piece of writing.

8. Clearly write the words FINAL PAPER at the top of the paper which

must be assessed.

9. Plan your time like this:

SECTION A: approximately 80 minutes

SECTION B: approximately 40 minutes

SECTION C: about 30 minutes

10. Indicate the number of words at the end of your piece of writing.

NOTE: The title is NOT taken into account when counting the words.

11. Write neatly and legibly. Use only a BLUE pen.

SECTION A: ESSAY

QUESTION 1

• Write an essay of 250–300 words on ONE of the following topics.

• Write the number and the title you choose at the top of your piece of writing.

1.6 Choose one of the following pictures and write an essay about it. Write the

question number (e.g. 1.6.1) and the title of your essay.

NOTE: There must be a clear connection between the essay and the

image you selected.

SECTION B: LONG TRANSACTIONAL TEXT

• Choose ONE topic and write 120–150 words about it.

• Write the number and the title of the topic you choose at the top of your piece of writing.

2.1 LETTER TO THE PRESS

You are very concerned about bullying behavior which is more and more common in schools.

Write a LETTER TO THE LOCAL NEWSPAPER stating your opinion

pronounce.

2.2 DIALOGUE

You want to end your relationship with your boyfriend/girlfriend. You ask your father/mother for
advice.

Write down the DIALOGUE between you and your father/mother. [30]

2.3 FORMAL REPORT

Your schoolmate accidentally crashed his bike into your parents' car. You

saw what happened.

Write a REPORT to the insurance company in which you explain what

happened. [30]

2.4 EMAIL

You would like to thank the principal and teachers at the end of grade 12

for everything they have done for you in the last 5 years.

Write an E-MAIL to the principal in which you thank him/her and the staff. [30]
SECTION C: SHORT TRANSACTIONAL TEXT

• Choose ONE topic and write 80–100 words about it.

• Write the number and the title of the topic you choose at the top of your piece of writing.

3.1 FLYER

The principal asked you to make a flyer for the school's OPEN DAY

design.

Design this FLYER to attract as many people as possible to the OPEN DAY

3.2 DIARY ENTRY

You are discouraged today. You worked very hard to complete a difficult assignment

completed and was excited about the end product. You expected very good marks,

but then your marks are poor.

Write TWO DIARY ENTRIES about this.

• DAY 1: the day before you handed in the assignment.
