1 Introduction
1:
Configuration
3DQuorum software has no user-configurable settings that influence the appearance of
the resulting SmartSlices. SmartSlices are stored and transmitted as a series of frames
using the DICOM Breast Tomosynthesis Image object format. The DICOM header for
SmartSlices contains the information needed to differentiate it from any accompanying
tomosynthesis reconstructed slices in the same view. An annotation ("3DQuorum") is
also burned into the SmartSlices pixel data.
During the initial installation of 3DQuorum software, the system is configured to allow
sending of tomosynthesis reconstructed slices and SmartSlices to PACS and diagnostic
workstations. The default output groups can be configured to send only SmartSlices, only
tomosynthesis reconstructed slices, or both to the preferred devices automatically. The
site PACS administrator, in consultation with Hologic connectivity engineers, can select
the output formats most appropriate for the site’s IT infrastructure and workstations.
As with the introduction of any new imaging technology, Hologic advises testing
SmartSlices with your PACS, workstations, and other Imaging Enterprise devices to
ensure compatibility.
Workflow
As with any imaging study, the technologist selects the patient and identifies the type of
imaging procedure that will be done. For tomosynthesis screening exams with
3DQuorum software, the process of imaging the subject and completing the study is all
that is necessary. The 3DQuorum software itself operates with no direct human
intervention.

IMPORTANT
When 3DQuorum software is being added to an existing system, be mindful of existing
output group settings that remain and could be continued to be used. This section
explains how to add back any data types removed from the “primary output setting”
for each modified device.
5. For any groups affected, select the group and then select Edit.
• If the DICOM Type 3D Slices (BTO) was removed from the primary output
setting, select the installed device labeled “Device Name – 3D 1 mm Slices” to the
output group.
• If the DICOM Type 3D Slices (SCO), 3D Slices (CTO), or 3D Slabs (BTO) were
removed from the primary output setting, consult with your Connectivity
Specialist or Technical Support and the customer to determine if additional
installed devices need to be added to the existing output group. Given 3D Slices
(BTO) was added to one of the new devices configured above, be careful not to
send 3D Slices (SCO) [or 3D Slices (CTO)] to one device and 3D Slices (BTO) to
another. Also be careful not to send both 3D Slices (SCO) [or 3D Slices (CTO)]
and 3D Slices (BTO) to the same destination.
6. When finished, select Save, then select OK in the Update Successful message.
7. Repeat steps 4 -6 for all previously existing output groups.
