*This is a version of the JJ and ME musical originally entitled Cookies! with small
additions that makes it more of a holiday musical.
By John Jacobson
Synopsis
All the fresh baked cookies are happy to be hanging out with the rest of their batch.
The Gingerbread Boys and Girls, the Ginger Snaps, Lady Fingers, Shortbread and
of course, the giggling Snickerdoodles!
But wait! Someone heard a rumor that they are all being taken to a Cookie
Exchange! There, they will be separated from their familiar friends and forced to
live with cookies so unlike themselves! What fun for children to dress up like their
favorite cookies (Animal Crackers, Macaroons, Russian Tea Cakes and more) and
learn through participation in this musical the joy of meeting friends who may
seem different than them. This 25-30 minute musical features songs like A Round
of Bakers (featuring the Bakers who make the cookies), My Batch (about the joys
of belonging to a group), Who Wants A Cookie? (featuring puppies, of course!),
New Friends (about the joy of meeting new and different people), and Hip Hip
Hooray! (celebrating friends of all shapes and sizes!)

Part A:
IT’S TIME TO BAKE THE COOKIES! COOKIES! COOKIES!
IT’S TIME TO BAKE THE COOKIES! ONE BY ONE!
IT’S TIME TO BAKE THE COOKIES! COOKIES! COOKIES!
IT’S TIME TO BAKE THE COOKIES! OH WHAT FUN!
PART B:
EVERYDAY AT 5 AM WE RISE BEFORE THE REST.
BAKING PIES AND CAKES AND BREAD,
BUT COOKIES ARE THE BEST!
Gingerbread Boy:
Come on everybody! Come follow me!
I’m the gingerbread boy as you can see!
Gingerbread Girl:
I’m the gingerbread girl! I’m oh so sweet!
And I’m decorated from my head to my feet!
(All applaud)
All: Amen!
Snickerdoodle 1:
(giggling) We’re so sweet the whole kit and caboodle,
Especially us, we are ….
All Snickerdoodles: Snickerdoodles!
Sugar Cookie:
We’re all cookies so give us a try!
Whoopie Pie:
You’ll love me! I’m a Whoopie Pie!
All: Whoopie!
Biscotti:
Everyone thinks I’m a little bit naughty.
I’m not bad. But I am…(pose) biscotti!
Sandwich Cookie:
She’s (he’s) a fortune cookie so have no fear!
Christmas Cookies: (Pause and look at each other. Then sing enthusiastically.)
Up on the housetop reindeer pause!
Out jumps good old Santa Claus!
Shortbread #1:
A cookie exchange? It sounds to me like there is a catch,
You mean we all get separated from our batch?
Shortbread #2:
Making new friends is something I don’t mind,
but I’d rather stick with my very own kind.
(Everybody talks at once agreeing with her, saying things like. “Yeah! I want to be
with my friends.” “Please don’t mix us up!” “I don’t like the sound of a cookie
exchange!” )
A pride of lions,
A school of fish,
Staying with my batch is all that I wish.
A colony of mice isn’t easy to catch
That’s why they stick together in their very own batch.
Refrain:
All alike! That’s what we like.
We learned that lesson long ago.
All alike! That’s what we like.
Sticking close to what we know.
Verse 2:
“A team of ox,
A charm of fox,
a mob of kangaroos is gettin’ ready to box.
A pack of mules can kick,
A stand of pelicans are pink,,
A drove of pigs can really stink” Shouted: P.U.!!!
Refrain:
All alike! That’s what we like.
We learned that lesson long ago.
All alike! That’s what we like.
Sticking close to what we know.
Or perhaps a spoken verse with lots of one line solos spoken in time.
Refrain:
All alike! That’s what we like.
We learned that lesson long ago.
All alike! That’s what we like.
Sticking close to what we know.
Scene 3:
Chocolate Chip:
Ahoy! Ahoy! For someone is approachin’
Tell us fortune cookie what is to be our fortune!
All: Puppies!!!!!
Scene 4:
Ginger bread girl: (to the boy) What are you crazy?
Gingerbread boy: Or would you rather have a bone?
Ginger Bread Boy: Okay. Fetch! (He tosses a bone and all the puppies chase after
it and off stage.)
Snowball Cookie:
You mean a snowball cookie might get to know a digestive biscuit?
New friends.
Aren’t so hard to take.
New friends
Aren’t so hard to make.
All you have to do is show them you are kind.
And new friends won’t be hard to find.
New friends,
All along the way
New friends
brighten everyday.
All you have to do is show that you are true,
And the new friends will be true to you.
And the new friends will be true to you.
Kiss cookie: You are all the sweetest cookies I could ever ask for! (Blows a big
kiss) Mwahh!
Oreo: That’s true! I’m learning that it’s not so much what’s on the outside of
friends but what’s in your middle that really counts.
Animal Cracker: Me too! At the cookie exchange I’ll bet we will find out we’re
not so different after all.
Finish song.
Scene 5:
Vanilla Wafer:
The cookie exchange will be here soon!
I hope I get to meet a nice macaroon!
Butter Cookie:
But wait! I think the puppies are back.
They really love cookies and are on the attack!
Shortbread: (Stepping forward, Showing them a “STOP” hand and cutting them
off)
STAY!
Shortbread: (hopefully and pointing offstage) But I heard there’s bacon right over
there!
Biscotti:
Nice work shortbread! That was the bravest thing I’ve ever seen!
Oreo #2:
What a fun and delicious day!
And we made a lot of friends all along the way!
Molasses: (slowly)
New friends may come in all shapes and sizes!
And making new friends can be full of surprises!
Fortune Cookie:
Listen up everybody! (reading)
Your fortune tells me, you will all have lots of fun!
Let’s start with cookies for everyone!
All: Yay!
(During the last song the bakers could return and serve cookies to the audience)
