RATIONALE:
This meeting will introduce new teachers to their peers, coaches, administration, and other faculty who they can rely on
throughout their first year. Each facilitator has an area of expertise and is of value to the new educators. Due to the overwhelming
nature of working in education, it is important to frontload information and provide as many resources as possible. Resources
include the staff handbook with information about days off, requesting substitutes, class schedules, and contact information for
important staff members. The emergency procedure resource reviews each stage of an emergency, mandatory reporting, READ
plans, and Safe2 Tell information. Teachers will also be introduced to the evaluation process, the school’s Unified Improvement
Plan, and data trends. Though there is a lot of information for teachers to review, resources and reference guides will be provided
as teacher aids.
Gathering the new teachers together before they meet the rest of the staff is meant to give them a chance to bond. They are peers
who will be navigating new teacher trials together. If they can create relationships with each other, there is a chance they will feel
less singled out while working with the whole staff. New teachers will also have access to a forum they can use to communicate
together or with the facilitators. New teachers will meet their mentors and be introduced to the district induction program which is
intended to support them through their first two years. Meetings, classes, lunches, and mentor check-ins are scheduled throughout
the year. As a school, new teachers and various school leaders will meet twice a month to complete an informal check-in and
answer questions that have been posted on the forum. This initial meeting sets all those next steps in motion.
