Climate Change: The Present
Challenge
One of the major
environmental challenges
that the world is facing
today.
Impacts of Climate Change
1. Melting of Polar Ice caps
2. Drastic Rainfalls
3. Thunderstorms
4. Sea-level rise
5. Increase of Earth’s temperature
According to the United States
Environmental Protection Agency
•Climate change is a threat to
the world’s basic needs, since
our key natural resources may
affect our food and water
security.
Other disasters
that affect food
production
Droughts
Heat stress
Floods
Climate change affects
those situated in costal
areas and island
regions
They can cause the ff:
•1. Rising sea levels
•2. Soil erosion
•3. Massive flooding
•4. Water born diseases
Extreme weather events
increase the rates of
transmission of infectious
disease
It also force people
to migrate to areas
as they constantly
affected.
United Nations Intergovernmental Panel
on Climate Change (UN IPCC)
• Last March 2014 showed how the world
is already subjected to the adverse
impacts of climate change as it continues
to endanger lives, livelihoods, health,
ecosystems, economies, societies,
cultures, services and infrastructures.
•The report warned us that if we do
not support climate change mitigation
today, the constant burning of fossil
fuels and deforestation will continue
to increase the growth of greenhouse
gas (GHG).
Sustainable Development: The Future
Challenge
According to World Commission on
Environment and Development
•Sustainable development defined
as “Development that meets
the needs of the present
without compromising the
ability of future generation to
meet their own needs”
•Sustainable development upholds
the idea that any social,
environmental and economic
advancement can be achieved
within the carrying capacity of the
earth’s natural resources.
•We must carefully explore our
lifestyles and move towards of
sustainable development in order
to efficiently balance economic
progress and environmental
awareness.
Example:
Solar and Wind Energy
Houses that use recycled materials
Chemical free method of farming
Water stewardships
What do we ought to do
“We have obligations
to protect the
ecosystems”
“Duty to protect the
environment from any
and every threat or a
duty to bring aid”
“Duty to do no harm or
inflict damaged to
environment”
Instead of “wait and see” attitude
“Why not do a proactive
approach?” Do
something before its too
late!
Suggestions to help environment:
• Join awareness-raising campaign.
• Involve in Non-government organizations
(NGO) that helping environment.
• Promote environmental advocacy
• Initiate change
The most important

“Change in
