NAME : MYZA AFRINA SAIYIDAH BINTI SURYADI NO. GILIRAN :

Adventures of Sang Kancil

A very good day I bid to the chairperson, honourable judges, timekeeper,

teachers and my fellow members of the floor. The reason I’m standing here is to tell a
story entitled “Adventures of Sang Kancil.”

Once upon a time, while Sang Kancil the Mousedeer was eating shoots in the
jungle, Seladang the Ox passed by and greeted him.

“Hey, Sang Kancil, I just saw Pak Belang the Tiger walking towards this area. You’d
better be careful.” Then Seladang left.

Sang Kancil continued enjoying the shoots without bothering about Seladang’s
advice. Suddenly, Pak Belang appeared behind him, ready to pounce on him! Sang
Kancil was shocked!

“Wait a moment, Pak Belang,” said Sang Kancil.

“Before you come nearer, I have a secret to tell you.”

“Secret? What secret?” asked Pak Belang with an interested look.

“This is King Solomon’s secret. I’m not supposed to tell anybody about it,” answered
Sang Kancil.

At those words, Pak Belang became very curious and wanted to find out more about the
secret.

“Tell me!” he demanded.

“All right, but you must promise to keep the secret,” said Sang Kancil.

After Pak Belang had made his promise, Sang Kancil took Pak Belang to the
bottom of a tree where a python was sleeping.

“That’s King Solomon’s belt. It has magic powers. Whoever wears it will live a long life,
always be healthy and loved by the animals,” said Sang Kancil.

“That sounds marvelous! Can I put it on?” exclaimed Pak Belang.

“No, King Solomon only allows me to wear the belt,” answered Sang Kancil.

Pak Belang pleaded for permission to wear the belt. At last, Sang Kancil agreed
but he told Pak Belang that he must first get permission from King Solomon. After
walking for quite a distance away from Pak Belang, Sang Kancil shouted, “Pak Belang,
you can wear it now.”

Without wasting any more time, Pak Belang reached for the python which was
soundly asleep. The python woke up and was angry at being disturbed. It twisted itself
round Pak Belang’s body as tightly as possible.

Pak Belang was surprised to find that the belt was actually a python. He roared in
pain.

“Wait and see, Sang Kancil. I’ll take revenge on you!” said Pak Belang.

When Sang Kancil was running away from Pak Belang, he suddenly heard
someone shouting for help.

“Hey, who is crying for help? Let me check it out,” said Sang Kancil.

When Sang Kancil reached the riverside, he saw Sang Buaya the Crocodile
biting Sang Kerbau the Buffalo at the leg. Sang Kancil approached them. When Sang
Kerbau saw Sang Kancil coming, he quickly said, “Please help me, Sang Kancil. I’ve
been cheated by this vicious Sang Buaya.”

Sang Kancil was shocked at hearing Sang Kerbau’s words. He asked, “How did
this happen?”

“Listen, when I was walking along the river, I heard Sang Buaya shouting for help
because he was hit by a falling tree. Sang Buaya promised not to attack me if I helped
to set him free, but he did not keep his word! Now I’m at his mercy!” said Sang Kerbau.

Sang Kancil nodded while trying to find a way to help Sang Kerbau. Then he
said,

“I can’t imagine how you managed to lift such a giant tree trunk with your horns. Can
you show me again?”

“Hey, you don’t have to know all about it. I’m very hungry now,” said Sang Buaya.

“Be patient. I just want to know the way he did it. If you deserve this buffalo, you can
always eat him later,” Sang Kancil said to the crocodile.

Sang Buaya agreed to it and let go of Sang Kerbau. Sang Kerbau lifted the tree
trunk with his horns and then placed it right on the back of Sang Buaya.

“See, this is how I found him!” said Sang Kerbau.

Sang Kancil just smiled while watching.

“Hey, hurry up Sang Kerbau! Get this tree trunk off my back! I can’t stand the pain
anymore!” urged Sang Buaya.

“Hmm… Crocodile, you deserve it!” said Sang Kancil.

“All right Sang Kerbau, let’s go. Let him suffer there. He will free himself if he’s smart
enough. This is what he deserves for breaking a promise.”

Sang Kerbau thanked Sang Kancil for saving his life.

“Remember, next time don’t be easily fooled by sweet talk,” said Sang Kancil.

They left Sang Buaya shouting for help but none of the animals came to his
rescue.

The moral of this story is that one should be clever and think before doing
something and never break a promise whenever you have made one. Thank you.
