RELED 212 – Responsibility and Commitment
Morality refers to a set of principles or values that distinguish between right and wrong,
good and bad, and acceptable and unacceptable behavior. It is a code of conduct that guides
individuals and societies in their actions and decisions. Morality can be derived from religion,
culture, or personal beliefs, and it can be universal or relative to a particular society or group. In
the normative sense, morality refers to a code of conduct that would be accepted by anyone
who meets certain conditions, usually including the condition of being rational. Morality is a
subject of study in philosophy, and it is concerned with the conceptual foundations and rational
consistency of moral standards.
The object of morality refers to the set of principles, values, and standards that guide
human behavior and decision-making, distinguishing between right and wrong actions,
intentions, and decisions. Morality can be derived from various sources, such as religious
teachings, cultural norms, or personal beliefs, and it serves as a foundation for social cohesion
and cooperation.
The difference between an act of man and a human act lies in the intention and
voluntariness behind the action. An act of man refers to involuntary actions, such as
physiological processes, or actions performed without the full exercise of intellect and will, such
as those driven by ignorance, passion, fear, or habit. On the other hand, a human act is an

action that is intentional, free, and deliberate, done with full knowledge and the consent of the
individual’s will.
Christian morality refers to the principles and values that guide the lives of Christians
based on their faith in God’s word and teachings. It is a way of living that is centered around the
awareness of being made in the image of God and the free will to seek and love what is true,
good, and beautiful. Christian morality is not merely a set of rules but a way of cultivating virtues
and practicing love, as exemplified by Jesus’ teachings to love God and one’s neighbor.
