WAVEFORM GENERATORS AND APPLICATION ICS
Schmitt trigger, multivibrator, triangular and sine waveform
generators, IC voltage regulators: 78XX-Fixed and LM317-
adjustable voltage regulators, LM723 general purpose regulators
• Identify the hysteresis voltage for the Schmitt trigger from the
given specification:
R2 =56kΩ , R1 = 100Ω ,Vref = 0v & Vsat = ±10v.
• In the Schimitt trigger the value of R2=50 kΩ, R1=50 kΩ, Vref=0
V, Vi=1 Vpp sine wave and saturation voltage = 14 V.
Determine the threshold voltages VUT and VLT
Multivibrator

• A MULTIVIBRATOR is an electronic circuit that generates

square, rectangular, pulse waveforms, also called nonlinear
oscillators or function generators.

• Multivibrator is basically a two amplifier circuits arranged with

regenerative feedback.
Monostable Multivibrator

• Op-amp Monostable Multivibrator (one-shot multivibrator)

circuits are positive-feedback (or regenerative) switching
circuits that have only one stable state, producing an output
pulse of a specified duration T.
• An external trigger signal is applied for it to change state and
after a set period of time, either in microseconds, milliseconds
or seconds, a time period which is determined by RC
components, the monostable circuit then returns back to its
original stable state were it remains until the next trigger
input signal arrives.
• The block diagram shows that a monostable multivibrator is
constructed by adding an external resistor, (R) and capacitor, (C) across
a switching circuit.
• The switching circuit can be made using transistors, digital logic gates
or general purpose operational amplifiers.
• The time constant, τ of the resistor-capacitor combination determines
the length of the pulse, T.
• The monostable multivibrator is used as delay and timing
circuits.
• It is also used for temporary memories.
• It is often used to trigger another pulse generator.
• It is used for regenerating old and worn out pulses
Triangular Waveform Generator
• The applications of triangular wave include
• sampling circuits,
• thyristor firing circuits,
• frequency generator circuits,
• tone generator circuits .
