Dynamics
refers to the volume of a
sound in music.
it is a distinction between
loudness and softness in
music.
BASIC DYNAMIC MARKINGS
• piano (soft)
• forte (loud)
• mezzo (medium)
The ending -issimo pushes the
dynamic away from the center
of the continuum, and adds an
extra letter (e.g. pianissimo is
softer than piano, pp.)

DYNAMIC MARKINGS
Crescendo
 when the dynamics get louder

Decrescendo or Diminuendo

 this means “getting smaller” in

strong, sudden
accent and is
abbreviated
as sf, sfz, or
fz.
