Multilingualism is considered as a RULE or a “common phenomenon.”

What do you think prompts or drives people to become multilingual?

Multilingualism requires consideration, intuition, and awareness.

People raised in multilingual environments are adept at seeing other
people’s perspectives. Inherently, they must understand context and think
about who in their environmental speaks which language and when.

What does a multilingual mean to you at this point?

Generally speaking, multilingualism refers to the ability of an

individual or a community of speakers to communicate effectively in
three or more languages. Such individuals who can speak multiple
languages are also identified as polyglots.

1. What is the final count of established languages in the Philippines, as

of date?
There are about 180 Philippine languages. The 8 major languages
are: Tagalog, Ilocano, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Bicol, Cebuano,
Hilihaynon, and Waray-Samarnon.

2. Browse to the listed Philippine languages. Identify at least five

languages that are unfamiliar to you.
The five (5) languages that are unfamiliar to me are Yakan,
Aklanon, Ibanag, Ivatan and Sambal.

3. For each language listed, what can you find in the description beside
it? What are those information?
The Yakan language is an Austronesian language primarily
spoken on Basilan Island in the Philippines. It is the native language of
the Yakan people, the indigenous as well as the largest ethnic group on
the island. It has a total of 110,000 native speakers.
The Aklanon (Akeanon) language, also known as Bisaya/Binisaya
nga Aklanon/Inaklanon or simplyAklan, is an Austronesian language of
the Bisayan subgroup spoken by the Aklanon people in the province of
Aklan on the island of Panay in the Philippines.
The Ibanag language (also Ybanag or Ibanak) is an Austronesian
language spoken by up to 500,000 speakers, most particularly by the
Ibanag people, in the Philippines, in the northeastern provinces of Isabela
and Cagayan, especially in Tuguegarao, Solana, Abulug, Cabagan, and
Ilagan and with overseas immigrants in countries located in the Middle
East, United Kindom and the United States. Most of the speakers can also
speak Ilocano, the lingua franca of northern Luzon island. The name
Ibanag comes from the prefix “I” which means “people of”, and
“bannag”, meaning river. It is closely related to Gaddang, Itawis, Agta,
Atta, Yogad, Isneg, and Malaweg.
The Ivantan (Ibatan) language, also known as Chirin nu Ibatan
(language of the Ivatan people), is a Philippine language of Austronesian
origins spoken in the Batanes Islands of the Philippines. Although the
islands are closer to Taiwan than to Luzon, it is not one of the Formosan
languages.
And the last is the Sambal or Sambali is a Sambalic language
spoken primarily in the Zambal municipalities of Santa Cruz, Candelaria,
Masinloc, Palauig, and Iba, and in the Pangasinense municipality of
Infanta in the Philippines; speakers can also be found in Panitian,
Quezon, Palawan and Barangay Mandaragat or Buncag of Puerto
Princesa.

4. In the Status Link, you will find the different status assigned to the

(e.g. The first status identified is ??? communication”. What does this
means) Do the same for the others.

PROVINCIAL means coming from a province. He or She speaks

with a provincial accent.

NATIONAL is a language that has some connection -de facto or

de jure- with a nation. There is little consistency in the use of this term.

or foreign languages- is primarily a branch of applied linguistics, but can
be an interdisciplinary field.

DEVELOPING means that the start with sounds and gestures than
words and sentence periods you can support language development by
