Semester 3 Reflection

As we close on the third semester of IB English, I feel satisfied with the amount that I have improved on my

reading, writing and analytical skills. When I am reading literature, I feel as though I am able to better identify

different messages, techniques and authorial choices. I have also learned to better analyze texts through

different types of lenses such as marxist or feminist. Additionally, I feel that I have improved when it comes to

literary analysis. I am able to properly analyze literary works. In terms of writing, I feel as though I have learned

how to establish a tone within my writing, whether it be a formal tone or something that reads more like a

journal entry. Another way I feel that I have improved in my writing is my ability to write more clearly and

more concise. These have contributed to my improvement in literary analysis as well. A couple of examples that

I feel demonstrate my improvement are my Core Concept 3 paper and my IB Inquiry paper. Both of these

essays showcase my improvement in literary analyses and concise writing.

A couple of connections between different texts that we have read this semester that I have made are the

juxtaposition of feminism in the books The Lying Life of Adults and A Doll’s House, as well as the common

theme of social class amongst the three books: The Lying Life of Adults, A Doll’s House, and Glengarry Glen

Ross. These are just a couple of connections I can think of between the many vibrant texts we have read this

semester.

Finally, some skills that I would want to Improve upon are my writing skills and my ability to analyze texts

from different perspectives. I hope to learn more analytical lenses in addition to feminist and marxist. Overall, I
feel as though I have had a productive semester three, and I am excited to continue improving my english skills

in quarter four.
