SUBJECTIVE HAPPINESS SCALE

METHODOLOGY
PROBLEM
To assess the subjective happiness of the subject using Subjective Happiness scale developed by
Dr. Sonja Lyubomirsky.
PLAN
To administer the subjective happiness scale and assess the global subjective happiness
of the participant.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:
a. Subjective Happiness scale (4 items)
b. Scoring Key
c. Writing Materials

PROCEDURE:
The Subjects is seated comfortably and give a copy to of subjective Happiness scale, which is a
self-administering with 4 items. The instructions are given to the subject to response in 7-point
scale; not at all to a great deal. The questionnaire it naturally completed in 5 to 10 minutes of
time. After the subject completes the questionnaire the experimenter scorer the responses on the
Likert scale of 1 to 7. The total score calculated, according to scoring procedure and interpreted
the overall subjective Happiness.

INSTRUCTIONS:
“Read each item of the scale carefully and how you feel about yourself in personal life. Express
your responses in 7-point scale against each item. Choose the answer that appropriate expresses
your feelings about each item. Do not omit any items. There is no right or wrong answer”
Scoring and interpretation
1. Each item was scored under 7-point scale. The item number Q4 Reverse
scoring:

2. To calculate total scores for the four questions and divided the total by 4, which
gives you average score. That answer is your “subjective Happiness score.”
Answers range from 1 to 7. Question 4 is “reverse coded” with descending
sequence.
