    I designed this Close Reading Annotation Recording Sheet as a tool for


    students to collect their thoughts on when using copies of texts that are
    not able to be written on. I found that using sticky notes for annotations
    became pointless in the sense that when we were done with the text, the
    sticky notes ended up in the trash or lost around the classroom. With this
    resource, students are able to collect and file their annotations so that they
    are able to reference them during sequential reads, or throughout the year.

    There are two different formats in this document. The first is formatted
    for students to simply place their sticky notes directly on the worksheet and
    file away in whatever manner works for you. In my classroom, we have
    used sticky notes to annotate as we read, and then at the end of each
    session, students are able to stick their annotations to this recording sheet
    so they don’t lose them, and then file them in their unit folder.

    The second document has larger squares that would allow students to write
    their thoughts directly on the recording sheet as they read. I inserted the
    annotation key that we use in my classroom so that students can identify
    the importance or type of annotation they are making. This can also be cut
    and glued into an interactive notebook, or placed in a unit folder.
