INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

In the modern landscape of education and leisure, the coexistence of academic excellence
and avid mobile gaming has emerged as a distinctive aspect of individuals' lives.

This study seeks to explore into the intricate and often overlooked intersection of these
asymmetric roles, shedding light on the lived experiences of academic achievers who actively
engage in mobile gaming.

The influence of digital technologies, particularly mobile games, on various facets of life
has become a subject of scholarly interest in the world. Training alone and different games
enchanced different aspects of cognition. We conclude that training specific cognitive abilities
frequently (Conte & Potenciano, 2017). Such perspectives challenge the traditional division of
gaming as a mere recreational activity and point towards a more highlighted understanding of its
impact on mental development.

The purpose of his study waste determine whether the educational game, utilizing a board
game aided by cards could assist college students int the acquisition and mastery of knowledge
related the economics discipline or subject (Ang et al., 2010). Filipino society has long
celebrated the role of games in social interactions and community building. However, the
specific interaction between academic achievement and mobile gaming within the Filipino
context remains relatively unexplored.

According to Ang, Zaphiris and Wilson (2010) Possible future work involves analyzing
more games from various genres using the proposed activity models to reveal more extrinsic
play aspects and possibly more detailed connections between various types of play, research
emphasizes the importance of considering the local context in studying gaming practices,
highlighting the need for a varied exploration of how individuals, especially academic achievers,
navigate the gaming landscape.

Furthermore, the students possess knowledge, to some extent, about traditional Filipino
games included in the study prior to exposure to the mobile gaming apps utilized platforms for
promoting understanding about the traditional games (Santos, 2019). Such studies provide a
backdrop for understanding the broader cultural influences that may contribute to the
intertwining of academic excellence and mobile gaming in the lives of Filipino students.
Despite the increasing acknowledgment of the positive and negative impacts of digital
technologies on education and leisure, there is a noticeable gap in literature regarding the distinct
experiences of academic achievers immersed in mobile gaming, particularly within the Filipino
context.. Shedding the light on the complex relationship between mobile gaming engagement
and academic study among adolescents and young adults. By elucidating the factors
contributing to the observed gap, including motivations, time allocation, and cognitive
engagement, this research offers valuable insights for educators, parents, and policymakers
seeking to support healthy technology use and academic success among youth

By focusing on the narratives of academic achievers embracing the 'savage' gaming


culture, the study aspires to unravel the complexities of their daily lives, the challenges they
encounter, and the strategies they employ to negotiate the delicate balance between academic
success and immersive mobile gaming. This research is grounded in the belief that understanding
these lived experiences can contribute to a more holistic perspective on the contemporary
Filipino student, inform educational practices, and deepen our comprehension of the intricate
dynamics between academic activities and digital leisure in both local and global contexts.
Purpose Statement

The purpose of this phenomenological study is to explore the lived experiences of

Specifically, the goal of this study is to answer the following question:


1. What are the lived experiences of academic achievers engaging in mobile gaming?
2. What are the challenges they encounter everyday?
3. What are the strategies they apply to balance academic success and mobile gaming?
