Introduction to
Palinda leisure
pavilion
The Palinda Pavilion is a contemporary architectural
masterpiece located in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It was designed
by the award-winning Sri Lankan architect Palinda
Kannangara and completed in 2017.
The pavilion is a two-story structure that blends seamlessly
with the surrounding garden landscape. It features a unique
perforated facade made of aluminum sheets that allow
natural light and ventilation to flow into the building. The
interior of the pavilion is open and airy, with minimalistic
furnishings and ample natural light.
Response to
context
This pavilion was built for private
entertainment purposes so the owner
wanted privacy. So from the exterior all
you can see is double height concrete
walls and wooden doors.
The design has been done so the
outside world wont interrupt the people
inside.
Entry
entry into the building is
through a timber box, a
dark passage way gives
very little idea of the
openness and scale of the
space encountered within.
Lobby,Lounge area
Entrance to the pavilion on the first floor
The pavilion has well designed hierarchy and progression of spaces starting from the
timber box that works as the entrance that opens up to the large open space like a
lounge and both of the sides open to the beautiful garden, and if we go upwards the
timber box theres a second floor level thats on the timber box with seating and a
tranquil lily pool and again open to the garden from both sides
