Topic 1 „Describe a typical business trip by airplane”

Business people have very specific needs. They need to travel by plane because in business the time
factor is very important. Time is money.

This kind of journey have many advantages.


First of all, it is the fastest on long distances. Secondly, it is quite comfortable. And, if you arrive at the
destination in good shape, you can start your business activities immediately. Finally, if you take your
laptop computer you can do some work at the airport and on the plane so you don’t lose any time.
Business people tend to use good, reliable airlines.

On the day of his trip the businessman must come to the airport at least 2 hours before the flight.
First he has to check in and get his boarding pass.
After that, there is the security check.
Next he goes to the lounge where he can have a cup of coffee or a meal and he can even do some
work on his laptop computer.
Some airports have special business lounges where it is possible to work or relax in comfort.
He can also do some duty-free shopping.
When the time of departure comes he must go to the gate where his identity is checked again, and
then board the plane.
Business people often travel business class, where they have more room and comfort, and there they
can use their computer, again.
If the businessman wants to relax, he can get something to drink or on long flights he can watch a
film. The crew serve meals as well.
When the businessman arrives at the destination, first he must collect his luggage and go through the
customs.
From the airport he goes to his hotel. Sometimes a company representative takes him there, but
more often he just takes a taxi or a special shuttle train to the city.
Then he checks in at his hotel. The hotel must be comfortable and it must offer the businessman
needs, like a good restaurant, excellent internet connection etc.
The hotel should be close to client’s office, and be close to the transport system of the city.
After a short rest, the businessman is ready for his first meeting.
