Goal: To express your ideas effectively in formal and informal compositions to fulfill your own
purposes for writing. To produce a persuasive composition based on a topic.
Role: You are a member of a reading and writing community where members share their opinions
about important issues.
Audience: Teachers and Classmates
Situation: As part of a reading and writing community, it is important to share your opinions about
important issues. You are being asked to persuade an audience to agree with your opinion on a
topic.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Come up with a good cause-and-effect topic which involves social issues and speculate about
possible causes for what you see.
Choose one from among the topics,
a. 5th Commandment (Thou shall not kill, ex. Extra Judicial Killing (EJK),
Drug Addiction),
b.
7th Commandment (Thou shall not steal, ex. Corruption) and 10th
Commandment (Thou shall not covet thy neighbor’s goods), and
c. 8th Commandment (Thou shall not give false witness against thy
neighbor, ex. Fake news using social media )
2. Highlight at least three causes and effects clearly describing in detail.
3. Outline your entire composition to ensure that every paragraph explores a different side of the
relationship between your topic and its causes.
4. Make a specific argument about how one person, thing, idea, or event affects another one.
Use clear topic sentences to keep each body paragraph anchored to the subject.
5. Present a clear point of view and examples to show how one event caused another.
6. Then, make an honest assessment of the topic by presenting your point, reactions, or
reflections.
7. The writing composition should not be less than 15 sentences.
