Assessment no. 3
Instruction: Answer the following question based on what your understand while reading and
studying the module 3.
1. Some IT security personnel believe that their organizations should employ former computer
criminals to identify weaknesses in their organizations’ security defenses. Do you agree? Why
or why not?
I am against on asking former computer criminals, because after all they have criminal
records through cybercrime. I am not discriminating them or judging that people cannot change,
but I wont risk my organization’s safety to some former criminals’ hands. What if they are still
doing their criminal jobs, and they do identify the weakness in my organization’s security then
selling our database information that we are unaware. Instead I will ask from IT specialists and
professionals that has background in this case and who is known to have a good reputation.
2. How should a nonprofit charity handle the loss of personal data about its donors? Should law
enforcement be involved? Should donors be informed?
The loss of personal data about their donors is the charity’s responsibility. If they are not
careful, they could expose their donor’s personal information and could lead them to danger.
The charity must seek help from law enforcement for them to investigate what is the main cause
of the data loss, or if there is some intruder that wanted to access the donor’s information. The
right way of dealing in this situation is informing the donors, because the donor’s safety and
privacy is the first priority. Through informing the donors, they could help each other together
with the law enforcement to find a remedy for the issue or possible solution to the problem.
3. What is the difference between industrial spying and the gathering of competitive
intelligence? Is the use of competitive intelligence ethical or unethical? Why?
