OMTQM: LESSON 6

Reflection Essay
Munsayac, Angela A.

1. Why leadership is important to an organization and to you?

Leadership is very vital in any team activities especially to an organization or any

group of people sharing a common goal. Leadership is what make things work in an
activity or operation involving a number of people. It is leadership that directs people in
doing the right thing that will help them attain the necessary objective. Personally,
leadership has always been part of me. It is leadership that developed my confidence
and it has undeniably trained me to being independent. Leadership made me realized
things I am capable of doing without me realizing it in the past. It has helped me cope
with other people and it taught me how to supervise people in an inspiring way.

2. What can you say about the leadership of our government, considering the topics
presented in this lesson?

To be honest, whenever I saw the news, it has always backlash against the leaders
of our country. Most people are not happy with the top leaders’ performance in meeting
the people’s needs. But on the other side of picture, I can say that our government
leaders are working hard to provide people’s necessities during pandemic. One of the
notable government leaders who have displayed great leadership is Mayor Isko Moreno.
I salute him for the big change he has brought to Manila. He has beautified some parts
of Manila like the opening of the Fort Santiago’s underground dungeon for tourism,
beautification and restoration of the Jones Bridge and the Manila City Hall. These are
just some of his remarkable works during his term not to mention the clearing and
cleaning operation of the Recto streets and underground streets. These wouldn’t be
possible if Mayor Isko Moreno is not a good leader. He possesses some of the qualities a
great leader has like empowering his subordinates, paying attention in meeting the
needs of his people, emphasizing improvement rather than maintenance, and a lot
more.

3. Are you a leader? Why or why not?

Yes, I am a leader. Way back in elementary until now, I was always chosen to be a leader
in most group activities. I am proud how my teachers trust me even in those petty things. But I
believe that if I can be trusted with petty things then so I can be trusted with larger things. As a
leader, I believe that I must learn to listen to my subordinates’ opinion rather than always
implementing what I believe in. I always put myself at last and I practice communicating to my
subordinates without them feeling threatened that I’m pressuring them to give me a response.
Since a leader doesn’t work alone, I always make sure that before every single action I make, I
make it know to my subordinates. Being a leader doesn’t mean you’re making yourself higher
than others but rather trying to keep up with them to motivate and uplift them. I always make
sure that I keep in touch with my subordinates and ask them if ever they are having difficulty
with their task and make a solution to help them do their task in less difficulty. I realized that
being a leader isn’t easy. You have to act the way you wanted your subordinates to act. A leader
must be a good role model and someone who can be relied on.
