Instructions:
1. Investigate the screen captures shared by Philippine Star Facebook Page on
August 4, 2022.
2. Provide the most logical explanation to each question. (2 points each)

Activity 1: Verifying Sources

1. Who do you think made these?

For me, I think one of the fb users made these.

2. Who is the target audience for this?

From what I’ve learned the target audience of this is older people
are more prone to share false information on facebook than younger ones, as we
all know that the most efficient way to transmit false information to audiences is
through social media.

3. Who might benefit or be harmed by this message?

For me, fake news won't benefit anyone, but it does have a
good effect since people who have already encountered fake news tend to have
better memories and convictions about the accuracy of facts. The people who see
and trust those messages are the ones who will be harmed by fake news.

4. What do you think is left out of this message that might be important?
We should recognize false news over original content
because we deserve the truth, and that is what I believe this message left out. As
long as I have the relevant information in front of me, we are intelligent enough to
come to our own conclusions. When you read fake news, you are effectively
being treated like an idiot, and fake news undermines your credibility, thus I have
every right to find it insulting.

5. Is this credible (and what makes you think that)?

No, of course not. Fake news actually aims to mislead the
populace in order to increase the dissemination of false information in favour of a
particular agenda by encouraging others to spread it widely. It can be challenging
to maintain credibility in a world of fake news, but the best course of action is to
position your business as a reliable source of information, grow an engaged
audience, and then provide compelling and informative content. This procedure
is sincere in and of itself, and it will aid in elevating your company above false
information.

Instructions:
1. Scan the QR code and read the article.
2. Provide the most logical explanation to each question. (3 points each)
Activity 2: Analysis of Information Sources

1. Based on the journalistic process of verification, independence, and

accountability, is there a difference between the articles in activity 1 and the articles
shown in the QR code? Explain.

Yes there is a different because in activity 1 the article was

published on the facebook which is not a credible source of information.

2. Did the article in the QR code and the Facebook post follow the process of
verification? How can you tell?

The one who follow the verification is the article in QR code

because the facebook post is the fake news one. The article in QR code is the one who
have credible source and the headlines, visuals support the content.
3 Which of the articles presented show a more independent source? What makes
you say that?

The QR code is a more reliable source than a Facebook post since

independent sources are frequently seen as being trustworthy, objective, and free of
bias. A source is considered "independent" if it has no personal stake in the topic. As
a result, Facebook posts are frequently made by fake news sources.

4. Is there accountability on the part of the source in the two articles? Explain.

Yes, the two sources are accountable, but the Facebook

post contains false information or fake news, and it does not come from a reliable
source. In contrast, the article with the QR code is a reliable source because it
states the facts.

“Understanding the Relevance of Information and News Literacy in the Midst of

Social Era”
Mass media has evolved into a source of information for
individuals who can deliver a wide range of messages, including economic
information, political, economic, social, and cultural protection, and security. In
today's digital age, information transmission methods are expanding, as is easy
access to all types of information. First and foremost, media literacy assists
students and others in becoming wiser media consumers as well as responsible
media creators. Similarly, teaching media literacy helps pupils enhance their
critical thinking skills. This way of thinking can eventually become second nature,
which can benefit them in a variety of ways as they get older. The emphasis is on
improving process skills rather than subject understanding. The fall in the use of
conventional media has been attributed to the growing trend of Internet usage.
Conventional media, such as newspapers, television stations, and radio stations,
have been employing technology to provide as much content as possible.

Access to social media, the new mainstream media in society, has

expanded along with the growth of internet users. Regarding such information,
prevention is required. Then, however, we determine whether the information that
was just supplied is accurate or not, whether the order of events corresponds to
reality, or the significance of the information that was just obtained. Although
well-intended, credibility checklists are frequently ineffective. It is more crucial for
students to be able to assess claims than sources in and of themselves. Students
frequently need to examine different sources to determine the accuracy of a
specific source's statements. Social media encompasses more than just websites
and apps with notable imports. Everything you need is always available with just
one click. Every action we take has a result, whether positive or negative. We
should always keep this in mind and act responsibly. By giving the young
generation the tools they need for media literacy, we can ensure that they are
completely capable of sorting and separating the information that is provided to
them.

By making a cognizant exertion to look for out data that challenges

your suspicions and convictions, you'll start to see things from the viewpoint of
others who oppose this idea with you. Everybody must concur on something to
contend from a specific set of truths. For this reason, we must endeavor to be
taught individuals who put truthful prove before our explanations. In this manner,
mental limitation and ethical judgment are cleared out to the general public. It is
inconceivable to belittle the control of media. Learning within the cutting edge
world requires information. In a world immersed with fake news and scammers,
you would like get to to the realities to bolster your choices.
