Theme: Abiding in Christ
Text: John 15: 1 – 8
Introduction:
Proposition: Every Christian should know his position wither he is
abiding in the Lord.
Observation: Let us draw our attention on the vine, and make some
observation on how it will relate to our Christian life.
I – The need of Abiding in Christ
A. Physically speaking: There are reasons for the need of the
Branch to abide:
1. For Life – so that the Branch can maintain its life he
should abide – (Application)
2. For Growth – The branch that is connected to the vine
is expected to grow and become mature.
(So are we ) – We need to grow spiritually
and in our relationship of the Lord –Learn…
3. For fruit Bearing – The ultimate purpose of the vine
owner for the vine is fruit, and he expect
that fruit in the branch, not in the vine.
* The gardener enjoys the fruit that the
branch gave. ( so God then would like to
enjoy the fruits we gave to Him – The fruit
of our Labor –WITNESSING ,Services to
him, the fruit of the Holy spirit-Gal 5:22)
B. God is pleased to see when the branch is abiding in the vine.
*ILL: My Durian tree in the Home lot – Napaksi ang sanga
wa, ko nalipay, “sayang” – so is our God to us.
C. The measurement that we can take if we are abiding is THE
WORD OF GOD. “ And my words abide in you”
D. it is in abiding in the word of God that we can know that we
Are connected in the vine. HOW we obey & practice it is the
Measurement how fitly we are abiding in him.
III – The condition of Abiding in Christ. (“IF YE”)
A. God does not force people if they don’t like it – pagustuhan
ra man ta sa Ginoo – because he respects our “WILL”.
B. In God’s point of view, there is no such thing as “pilitanay”
C. God will never force us if we desire too. The condition of
Abiding in Him will depend now on man.
D. It would be better to follow with willingness than doing
Things with “murmuring”
E. Ex. Family is guided by Rules and policies - if you do
It will be well for everybody – if not its up to you.
F. Good relationship always abides in obedience.
G. God wants us to be happy, so he keeps on suggesting that
You have to abide in me, because great benefits will be
Enjoyed by those whop do so. - the decision is ours. But
The challenge remains, “if ye abide in me.”
III - The Privilege of abiding in Christ. “Ask”
A. Man can possibly have things needed, but not all he wants
Is always their. – this gives us the Idea that we are
Insufficient. & it is in our insufficients that we ask.
B. The Lord knows pretty well that the branch itself has so
So many things needed. And we all get this in the Lord.
C. God is also confident that when his branch is well abiding
In him will ask what is just needed that are in accordance
To his will and purpose.
D. so He offers “Ask whatever you wish” and he promise
It will be done to you.
E. We sometimes don’t have the answer to what we ask
Because:
1. We never abide in Him
2. We ask things by our own will and for our
personal benefits.
F. The branch will always ask what is good not only for
Him but what he will be asking will be beneficial for all,
And a glorifying one to the master.
