● Rationale

Commercial preservatives have become ubiquitous in modern food and cosmetic


industries, playing a critical role in extending shelf life and maintaining product
quality. However, the pervasive use of synthetic preservatives raises several concerns
that attention. This research is Important since it can ease the problem about the
commercial preservatives since it contain an harmful chemical that can destroy our
body or sometimes our environment and that’s why we proposed this study to ease
the problem about this issue and commercial preservatives are quite pricy and
harmful or sometimes it don’t extend the shelf life of fruits. So in overall conclusion
this experiment Is important since it can widely help us to reduce the usage of
commercial preservatives and ease the harmful effects of it.

The main objective of this study is to maintain the taste and proteins inside the
banana and enchanted it's shelf life and quality as well as create a healthy
environment to us and avoid using dangerous preservatives. The benefits are it is
more cheaper than commercial preservatives, it is more safe to use than the one
than we can do on market since all of its components are natural, and lastly to
consume an healthy Latundan banana and to avoid getting disease involved with
commercial preservatives.

The reason we want to conduct this study is to prove this idea is beneficial for the
local community and lessen the problems about the rotting of banana and the high
refusal waste of banana every year here in Cadiz. The most common problems in
commercial preservatives are the hazardous chemical that they consist that can lead
to chemical reactions and sometimes can cause cancer to us.

● Research Question or Problem being addressed

This study aims to answer the following questions;

1. Will Aratiles change the Taste of Latundan?


2. How will this study contribute to our society? Will this help our farmer?
3. Can the aratiles fruit has the potential to enhance the quality and shelf life of Latundan?
4. How much time does it need to process the three stages before it actually extend the
shelf life of Latundan?
5. Does flavonoids can enhance the shelf life of fruits?

● Goals/Expected Outcomes/Hypotheses
The study aims to formulate goals and expected outcomes related to Latundan banana, a
highly fruit that being planted here in Cadiz City.

Specifically, it aims to:


1. Bring focus on how well Aratiles can extract the shelf life of Latundan.
3. Emphasize its role as a natural preservatives, effectively extending and improving the
quality of banana
4. Prove that Aratiles can help extend the Shelf life of Latundan.
5. Stress its function in extending the shelf life of banana without the help of refrigerator.
6. Compare the effectiveness of commercial preservatives and the aratiles preservatives that
we've conducted.

● Procedures

Experimental design will be used in this study. The amount of preservatives will be set as an
independent variable, shelf life and quality of banana as dependent variable and types of
variety of plant, time of applying the solution will be the control variables.

This study indicates the process of how the independent variable is able to enhance and
extend the shelf life and quality of banana. This study involves the pigment Extraction
method this will ensure that the flavonoids and the aratiles flesh to separate each other.
Flavonoids are the one who is responsible for enhancing the shelf life of banana, it is safe to
use than the one they use on commercial preservatives. When the flavonoids and the flesh
are separated then the pigment will be put on the spray bottle then spray it on the Latundan
for about 3 treatment for every 1 week.

● Risk and Safety


Since the bananas (latundan) preservatives do not pose a threat to the environment and
that the researcher did not add any dangerous chemicals that might cause chemical
reactions, It is safe to use even if it can cause the banana’s quality to deteriorate. As a
result, our research is entirely natural and risk-free. To guarantee that nobody will be hurt
while doing this experiment, the materials will also be handled carefully, the researcher will
wear a PPEs and follow safety protocols, and the researcher will be guided by a qualified
scientist. However, by providing proper handling, appropriate tools, and putting it into a
clean holder, risk may be minimized or avoid. It is crucial to keep the banana in open place
and avoid using inappropriate tools when Extracting aratiles pigment.
