MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY

*PREPARATION OF MATERIALS*

(PAKI EDIT NLNG IF MAY D TUGMA SA MATERIALS)

FIRST, WE WILL PREPARE THE MATERIALS NEEDED FOR THE EXPERIMENT WHICH INCLUDES THE
LAKATAN AND SABA BANANA, COMMERCIALIZED COAL, SAWDUST WHICH WILL BE USED FOR MOLDING
THE BANANA PEELING CHARCOAL, LUKEWARM WATER, MEASURING CUPS TO BE USED FOR THE DRY
INGREDIENTS, CORNSTARCH, USED LARGE SIZED CAN TO BE USED FOR BURNING THE BANANA
PEELINGS, USED PIPING TUBE TO BE USED AS MOLD, MEDIUM SIZED PLASTIC CONTAINERS FOR MIXING
AND MOLDING, TRIPLE BEAM BALANCE, Chicken Intestine THAT WILL BE USED FOR FOOD TESTING, AND
GRILLER FOR COOKING. ALL OF THE MATERIALS THAT WE WILL USE ARE REUSED/BIODEGRADABLE SO
THAT OUR EXPERIMENT WILL BE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY WITH VERY LOW COST.

*COLLECTION OF LAKATAN AND SABA BANANA PEELINGS*

NEXT IS THE COLLECTION OF LAKATAN AND SABA BANANA PEELINGS, Lakatan banana (Musa
acuminata Colla) and Saba banana (Musa acuminata balbisiana) will be bought/collected from
the local market in Gapan City, Nueva Ecija. The researchers will carefully peel the Lakatan and Saba
Bananas and put them inside a large sized metal can, to be prepared for pyrolysis.

*Pyrolysis of Banana Peelings*

In the pyrolysis of banana peelings, t he Lakatan and Saba banana peels will be burned down
using a large metal can that has a hole on top for the heat to not get trapped inside the container
and prevent explosion. The banana peels will undergo burning process will last at least 30
minutes.
*Grinding of Burned Banana Peelings AND Preparation of Molding Agent*

Grinding of Burned Banana Peelings

After the pyrolysis of the banana peelings, The researchers will collect the cooled banana
charcoal from the large metal can. Then, the charcoal that was produced will be grinded using a
blender (or manually with a mortar and pestle) until it turns into a powder-like substance and will
be placed in a clean container.

Preparation of Molding Agent

The researchers will prepare a mixture of cornstarch and water that will act as a binder
for the charcoal powder that will be produced. In a medium container, 1 cup of lukewarm water
and ½ of cornstarch will be mixed together and will be stirred until the cornstarch dissolves
completely. In another container, 1 cup of crushed banana peelings and 1 cup of saw dust will be
put together. The saw dust will also serve as a binder for the banana charcoal to form completely.
The two mixture will now be combined in a ratio of ¾ cup:2 cups.

Molding of Powderized Banana Charcoal

After the Grinding of Burned Banana Peelings and the Preparation of Molding Agent, the
researchers will now be molding the combined ingredients into circular shape using the piping
tube and will be doing the procedure until all the crushed banana peelings has been formed into a
ball.
Drying of Banana Charcoal

After molding the powderized banana charcoal, It will be dried using the heat of the sun
to be thoroughly dried for 3 days.

Flammability and Cooking Capability Test

Flammability Test

The researcher will prepare 200 grams each of lump charcoal, lakatan banana charcoal, and saba
banana charcoal that will be simultaneously burned together. The aim of this test is to assess the
combustion duration of all charcoal and compare it one by one.

Cooking Capability Test

The researcher will prepare 200 grams each of lump charcoal, lakatan banana charcoal, and saba
charcoal that will be simultaneously burned together to cook the chicken intestine. The objective
of this test is to determine the time and efficiency of the three (3) charcoals to completely cook
the chicken intestine.
