ANEMOMETER POTAIN “WIND”

1. FOREWORD
The anemometer allows to display the wind speed and to release various alarm levels as soon as certain
thresholds are exceeded.

The good working order of the anemometer depends on:

− the observation of the operating instructions
− erection / dismantling conditions which do not cause any damages
− a careful maintenance

Any malfunctioning must be immediately signalled.

Only competent and qualified persons are authorized to carry out operations on the system.

3. WORKING PRINCIPLE

Check the good working order:

− at each erection or dismantling
− when starting work
− after disturbances like power cutoff or overvoltages (for ex. due to storms)

3. 1. PREALARM / ALARM

If the alarm threshold is reached, stop immediately the work and put the crane into
weathervaning position.

3. 3. SYSTEM SELF−TEST

i A pulse on the “TEST” key releases a test operation during 3 seconds on each following
element:

All the display segments are lit

WIND

TEST

The internal microprocessor simulates the sensor signal at the dis-

play input and indicates a possible fault at the sensor input.
The system automatically changes to normal functioning.
A second pulse on “TEST” interrupts the sequence.

3. 4. INDICATION OF A FAULT

The system supervises the fault appearance and indicates it by:

− switching in both signal lamps of the display
− activating the internal buzzer
i − displaying the fault code which is preceded by an F

If several faults are simultaneously present, priority is given to the lowest number which
corresponds to the most important fault.

Desactivates the buzzer Reactivates the buzzer

Codes Concerning fault

0001 CPU card internal fault
0002 5 V supply fault
0004 Fault Sensor absent
0008 Fault signalling housing absent
0010 Repeater/radio connection fault
0020 EPROM memory fault

6. PERIODICAL CHECKINGS

Make sure that the device (especially the sensor and its rotor) is protected against
possible chocs during operating.

Following checkings must be carried out periodically:

− System test, see § 3. 3.
i − System indication check: The sensor output signal cannot be checked except an other
calibrating anemometer is available. However, a simple indication check can be done by
“starting” manually the sensor. The indicator must display between 20 and 30 km/h.
