Take a couple of minutes and reflect on what you understand by the term
Entrepreneurship. How would you define it? Make some notes in your personal journal.
Activity – Definitions
What would you say are the main differences between the first definition and the
second definition of entrepreneurship? Write your answers down in your personal journal.
The main differences between the first and second definitions of entrepreneurship lie in
the focus of opportunity and the scope of impact. The first definition emphasizes financial
opportunities and the establishment of new enterprises, while the second one broadens the
scope to include opportunities for innovation across various contexts, including social and cultural
aspects. The second definition also highlights the transformation of ideas into practical activities
beyond just financial success.
As you look at the following words, classify them either under the term
entrepreneurship or the term entrepreneur. Give a reason for your choice.
6. Good relationship with workers – While crucial for effective business operations,
having a good relationship with workers doesn’t exclusively align with either
entrepreneurship or entrepreneurs. It is a general aspect of effective management
within the context of a business.
7. A person who takes chances in life – This phrase describes a characteristic often
associated with entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are known for taking risks, exploring
opportunities, and venturing into the unknown to pursue their goals and create
innovative solutions.
10. Working long hours – While working long hours can be associated with both
entrepreneurship (due to the dedication and effort required to build and run a
business) and an entrepreneur’s personal work ethic, it is not exclusive to either
term. Many individuals, regardless of their entrepreneurial status, may work
extended hours in various professions.
