Cake Mix Fig Cake

This old-fashioned Fig and Molasses cake is so moist and delicious. It reminds me of my great-grandmother
Zoie. She always had a dessert made and sometimes it would be a cake like this, buttery with just the right
amount of spice. I will post the shortcut recipe (box cake mix) first then I will post the homemade second. I
would love to hear from you if you bake one and what you think of it.

Fig and Molasses cake (shortcut recipe).

1 Yellowcake, Spice cake, or Butter Cake mix(if using a spice cake mix omit the spices)

1 stick of butter

1 cup milk

1/4 cup vegetable oil

4 eggs 1/2 cup Molasses

1/2 tsp. ginger

1/2 tsp. cloves

1 cup chopped figs tossed with 2 teaspoons of flour.

Streusel

1/2 cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons butter

1/2 tsp. cinnamon Stir together until mixed well.

Cream together the butter and eggs, add cake mix, ginger, and cloves, gradually add 1 cup of milk 1/4 cup oil,
1/2 cup molasses, mix for a few minutes, scrape it down, and take off mixer and add the figs stirring until mix
well don't overmix.

I use a 13x9" pan, sprayed, floured, and parchment in the bottom. Pour cake mixture into pan and sprinkle with
streusel over the top and bake at 350* for 30-40 minutes until toothpick comes out clean.
