Ladies and Gentlemen and the like, a Good Day to my fellow youth advocates! I
m Alrich Jillian L. Andrada, you could call me Kuya Alrich if you prefer. And for today I
a
am one of the speakers of this show. I was never a math person as a child nor even
today but I do appreciate the fact that I am slowly improving on the subject. When I was
in 10th grade, I was finalizing my answers in our math book work minutes before our
Math Period. Panicked as I am, I didn’t have enough time to double check my answers.
I am so unsure with my answers that I even use a calculator to know what 5 + 5 is! So I
thought of the fastest way to double check my answers was to use Photomath. It did
save me lots of time and thankfully my answers were correct… mostly, but I don’t
encourage you to use photomath in solving items. It was that one moment that really
opened my eyes on how AI is being used in today’s generation.
Do you know the latest AI yearbook trend? Where you send selfies in
photo-generating apps to look like you’re in the 90’s?
Apparently it was being discouraged by the NBI to use as it poses a risk of
Identity Theft. Ladies and Gentlemen, once again is this how AI is supposed to work?
Personally I think not, we are already living in the digital age yet as we could see there’s
a lot more to tackle in terms of using it. Defining artificial intelligence, better known as AI
is a computer science focused on making computers work and act like humans. In this
world full of technology and especially when we experienced the limitations of the
pandemic, it is safe to say that it was also the time where AI sheds its light to the
people. To be blunt, 2020 was the year where AI felt their globalization. The wonders of
artificial intelligence surely has a positive effect in the lives of people, may its purpose is
to simplify activities or for entertainment, it has surely connected to the lifestyle of a
person. It didn’t take too long for Social Media to notice it, there wouldn’t be a single day
that it wouldn’t be discussed or even applied. Our prime example, as we are talking
about, is the latest yearbook trend.
BUT just like Newton’s Third law of motion, for every action there is an equal and
pposite reaction. Artificial intelligence isn’t just all good, there’s always the risk of being
o
exposed to unwanted cyber crimes such as Identity theft, phishing and blackmails.
Going back to the issue at hand, the NBI stated that AI could craft fake profiles, leaving
our pictures exposed at vulnerable platforms to be used by any malicious activities. The
NBI also stated that while the AI yearbook trend may appear harmless and amusing, it
still has the potential to be maliciously exploited. Despite AI having the purpose to act
s humans, it is still vulnerable to be oppressed by people for their own disgusting
a
intent. One can never be too sure what actually is safe to use.
Speaking of AI exploitation, another downside of AI is the ugly phenomenon of
eepfakes. A deepfake is a video of a person’s face or body that has digital alterations
d
with the intent of spreading false information or mostly used with malice. An example of
which is the deepfake of the late Basketball star Kobe Bryant inKendrick Lamar's music
video The Heart Part 5 and other controversial figures. What’s even more disturbing is
that, statistically speaking 90% of deepfakes are used in adult entertainment sites. That
being said, it’s already horrible to think that even in the cyber world there’s no room for
safety on one’s personal information. Questioning myself, how could I? A young student
who frequently uses social media could protect myself in the dangers of AI?
Artificial intelligence paves a way towards a future with advancements, yet
there’s no guarantee what kind of an impact it will give knowing that there’s more to
know about AI than just merely humanoid technology. Maybe it's more about practicing
Media Literacy and Cyber awareness throughout the times, but there is also a need to
know more about the subject of using Artificial intelligence in lifestyle, its practicality
comes with a condition, a condition of when it should be used at the right times.
We live in a world of flaws, to think that Artificial Intelligence could actually
radicate those flaws would seem to be a flaw itself.Just like Eliezer Yudkowsky said,
e
“By Far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early
that they understand it”. We could never be too sure how transcendent AI would be in
the future, so it’s better to practice security for the sake of one’s safety. That’s all
