What is AI?

In the simplest terms, AI which stands for Artificial Intelligence

refers to systems or machines that mimic human intelligence to perform
tasks and can iteratively improve themselves based on the information
they collect. AI enables technical systems to perceive their
environment, deal with what they perceive, solve problems and act to
achieve a specific goal. The computer receives data - already prepared
or gathered through its own sensors such as a camera - processes it
and responds. AI systems are capable of adapting their behaviour to a
certain degree by analysing the effects of previous actions and
working autonomously. Artificial Intelligence is a constellation of
many different technologies working together to enable machines to
sense, comprehend, act, and learn with human-like levels of
intelligence. Maybe that’s why it seems as though everyone’s
definition of artificial intelligence is different: AI isn’t just one
thing.

Uses of AI

AI has a vast variety of uses. We use it in hospitals, in offices, in shops and even in our
everyday lives. Here are a few examples:

1. Voice recognition
2. Self-driving cars
3. Chatbots
4. Online Shopping
5. Healthcare technology
6. Education tools
7. Social Media
8. Smart Input Keyboards 5

How does AI affect us?

AI has a big impact on our lives. Both positive and negative. Here
are a few:
Positive Impact:
1. Strengthening democracy
2. AI, security and safety

Negative Impact:
3. Underuse and overuse of AI
4. Liability: who is responsible for damage caused by AI?

6
Pros And Cons of AI
Pros: Cons:
1. Reduction in Human Error 1. High Costs of Creation
2. Available 24x7 2. Making Humans Lazy
3. Faster Decisions 3. No Emotions
4. New Inventions 4. Lacking Out of Box Thinking
5. Digital Assistance
5. Unemployment

7
Do we need AI?

Yes and No. At present, numerous businesses use AIs to meet their needs. The AIs
that are used are mostly made to perform specific tasks more efficiently than
their human counterpart. This involves tasks like mass emailing, data collection,
data categorization, etc. Some businesses even create such AIs for others. AIs
are needed because they make certain tasks for us, humans, easier. Moreover, AIs
aren’t only beneficial for businesses. People can use AI to optimize their daily
lives or get assistance on the go. AIs like Google’s Search Algorithm allow for
users to have more optimized search results based on predictions from their past
search activities and Facebook’s Homepage Algorithm allows for news to be
displayed as per the user’s interests. Other AIs like Apple’s Siri enable users
to interact with AIs directly making tasks easier for them.On the other hand,
replacing humans with AIs in terms of labor is likely to hamper our societies in
the long run. The global unemployment rates might go up, the quality of life
worldwide might change or even, for dramatic purposes, AIs might take over the
world. In spite of that, the incorporation of AIs in every part of our lives has
better possibilities of making the world a much safer and efficient place. The AI
revolution, happening right now, has proved to make the world economy better in
many aspects even now. In short, the possibility of AIs making the world a better
place are higher than that of AIs deteriorating the human civilization at the
moment. That is why the inception of AI is necessary. 8
Conclusion

Some AI experts predict that AI will be able to do anything that

humans can but do it better. This is a questionable assumption,
but AI will surely surpass humans in specific domains. A chess
computer beating the world chess champion was the first example.
If AI were to develop to the point that it can do everything
better than humans, it would mean that it would also do better in
science and technology. It may decide that it is no longer
worthwhile to develop a certain field of research - or it may
decide space travel is a waste of time as long as humans on earth
are living in poverty and more than a billion people have no
access to clean drinking water. Most scenarios about future AI are
hypothetical, but AI presents us with existential questions. It
shows that where science stops, philosophy and spirituality begin.

Today's AI is about new ways of connecting people to
computers, people to knowledge, people to the physical
world, and people to people.
