A STUDY ON ADOPTION OF INTERNATIONAL PATIENT SAFETY GOALS

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is going to analyse and integrate the six core goals of International
patient safety goals (IPSG). Ensuring patient safety is an ongoing concern for all healthcare
providers as it is a fundamental component to the delivery of safe high-quality care. The IPSG is
detailed in Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation standards for hospital. This study
will provide valuable information regarding the awareness of IPSG.

Introduction:
The basic principle of health services is patient safety. The fact that the most basic element of the
patient care process is the patient requires responsibility awareness, current knowledge and
attention to be valid throughout the whole process. Various problems that occur in the process or
system in patient-oriented treatment practices may reveal situations that may harm the patient.
Patient safety; It is a complex system that includes performance improvement, environmental
safety and risk management as well as service improvements, infection control, safe use of
medicines, equipment safety, safe clinical practices and safe care environment.

Problem statement:
Many research indicates that patient safety is related in many ways to patient public health
problems, but only few were oriented to the relation between the application of international
patient safety goals in hospital.

Literature review:
 Failure to correctly identify patients can be root cause of many problems and has serious
effects on healthcare provision. A report the Joint Commision published in 2018
identified 409 sentinel events of patient identification out of 3326 incidents (12.3%)
between 2014 and 2017.
 WHO has launched the patient safety flagship as a transformative initiative to guide and
support strategic action on patient safety at the global, regional and national levels. Its
core work involves supporting the implementation of the Global Patient Safety Action
Plan 2021 – 2030.
 Patient safety improvements demand a complex system wide effort, involving a wide
range of action in performance improvement, environmental safety and risk management
including infection control, safe use of medicines, equipment safety, safe clinical practice
and safe environment of care.

Objective:
 To assess the current status of the adoption of international patient safety goals in
hospital.
 To evaluate the impact of IPSG on patient safety outcomes.
 To explore the perception and experiences of healthcare professionals regarding IPSG.
